Iinfrared photography has the power of showing us a different world. We can travel through the unknown with each image, an unpredictable and astonishing universe that marvels our eyes with unique textures and colors.
Myth: Infrared film records heat.
This is a common myth - that since heat output is a kind of infrared radiation, then infrared film must detect heat, such as human body heat. This is essentially incorrect.
When taking infrared photos, aside from using slow shutter speed, the aperture should also be narrow. Just play with different shutter speed and aperture combinations until you achieve the desired infrared picture.

There are three black and white infrared films on the market today. Kodak's High Speed Infrared Film (HIE) has the highest IR sensitivity of the three films but sacrifices Grain size as the grain is very large.

The four classes are as follows: colorblind (monochromatic), orthochromatic, panchromatic, and infrared. Some of these emulsions respond to a wide range of wavelengths of light. Others respond to only a narrow band of wavelengths.
Infrared Filter
Infrared is a wavelength that is longer than visible wavelengths which can be viewed by the human eye. Most digital cameras are sensitive to infrared and can make exposures at these longer wavelengths.
Active autofocus cameras emit an infrared beam which is reflected by the subject so the camera can focus on it. Infrared instead of visible light is ideal for "candid" shots as the subject will not be aware of the camera focusing on them.
Non-visible light (Infrared): The eye has amazingly nice filters. The HVS response diagram above shows how nearly ideal the sensors in the eye are for selecting their three primary colors. But camera filters are unfortunately not quite as elegant.
They are panchromatic/conventional, panchromatic/chromagenic and Infrared. Most black and white is panchromatic. Chromagenic film is black and white film that is processed using C-41 chemistry which is what is used for color negatives.

Another system, Infrared autofocus (also known as active autofocus) generates an infrared beam to measure the distance to the subject and establish the focus. Active autofocus systems have, by their very nature, limited range.
A rainbow is generally described as having bands of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, but the actual number of hues is infinite between ultraviolet and infrared.
There are no coincidental images in a viewfinder, instead camera projects the light beam (infrared or visible) towards the object, times the light that is reflected back and then determines the distance of the object from the camera lens.
Color cameras CANNOT use infrared light whatsoever. However, this special band of light CAN be detected by most black and white CCD camera.
However, it depends on the light sensitivity of the sensor. Another autofocus namely infrared autofocus or active autofocus generates an infrared beam to measure the distance of the subject and adjust the focus.
However, there are other forms of photography such as black and white, monochromatic, infrared etc. There is much more than simple shining colours in pictures. Photography is the recording of light regardless of colour and outcome.
