Ink Jet Print
An image on paper or other material such as a canvas produced by a process that sprays dyes or pigments through tiny nozzles onto the material.
(see Giclée Print)

(see diaphragm) ...

Ink jet printer
A printer that by spraying tiny black or coloured ink dots onto paper produces a hardcopy image.
Interface
Connecting point between the computer and an external device, e.g. mouse, scanner, modem, digital camera.

Ink jet
A non impact printing technology where ink droplets are propelled at the paper to form characters or graphics. Can be B&W or colour.

Ink Jet: Ink jet printers spit out very tiny spots of ink onto paper. The new Epsom printers delivering 1400 x 700 with improved 6 color ink cartridges produce exceptional results. Properly they produce proofs that are almost proof quality.

Ink Jet (Giclée) Great quality, cheap, fades quickly.
Laser: Lasts longer, poorer quality, very expensive. Avoid these.

piezo-electric
ink jet technology that uses a mechanical electric charge instead of heat to drive microdroplets through a nozzle.
piezoresistance
resistance that changes with stress.

Ink jet papers need to be specially coated and should have excellent ink adherence, because ink jet inks are more absorbent than toners or solid inks.
They should be scratch and kink resistant and have high densities for vibrant colors.

The 9Ã-12" model prints will be photographic "wet" prints (meaning they are from a chemical process) or ink jet prints and the model will put these into their portfolio. The portfolio will not be just headshots but headshots are very important.

Ink jet hasn't been around long enough to know how it will withstand the ravages of time, so for the moment most experts seem to recommend that you take your pictures to your local photo lab to have them printed instead.

This paper is fairly rigid, and may cause paper feed problems in some desktop ink jet printers if you feed it in through the normal tray feed. For this reason, I always load a single sheet only through the back feed of my Canon MP620 printer.

If what you want is flat, glossy eye candy, by all means, shoot digital and print via an ink jet. If you want black and white, then get a darkroom. The economics and sheer numbers have forced digital to concentrate on color for the masses.
