IS IT REALLY "FREE"? (Yes!)
So many photography websites advertise "free" photography courses, but merely provide a meager sample or handful ofway-too-obvious tips.
IS - Image Stabilization. This feature of your lens helps to reduce the effects of camera shake on your image - particularly when a lens is zoomed in.
IS is not perfect. It will not suddenly allow you to shoot at ridiculously slow shutterspeeds indoors, or make every dimly-lit scene amazingly rich in detail. But if you keep getting blurry or grainy pictures when it's dark, IS will help.

HOW IS THE IMAGE STORED? (or what is a megapixel?)
When you take a picture with a digital camera the light strikes a digital sensor array, instead of a piece of film.
WHY IS THIS?
Those who make photographs always have more photos to make or editing to do. There isn't any computer time to waste on forums. When in front of our computers we would rather create a new image or play with a new tool.
WHAT IS THE BEST BALLHEAD FOR A 500 OR 600mm LENS?
Here again, there are only two choices for general bird photography, and a third if you do lots of flight shooting with a 600mm f/4 lens. Simply put, the ARCA Swiss B-1 is my everyday tripod head.
Use an IS or VR lens. A lens with image stabilization (IS) or vibration reducing (VR) can greatly improve the sharpness of your photographs. The internal systems of an IS lens can detect camera shake and compensate for it.
So who IS safe to buy from?
Well I can tell you who I buy from - but I have to declare an interest here. I buy from AMAZON.COM, J&R and ADORAMA.

IS (Image Stabilizer) - feature that minimizes the effects of camera shake. Originally designed for video cameras. Canon has transferee the technology to its EF lenses.
IS won't help much with the moving subjects though. You can save some money if you can live with a certain focal length. If you can, pick up a prime lens like the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM.

WHY GAMMA IS USEFUL
1. Our eyes do not perceive light the way cameras do. With a digital camera, when twice the number of photons hit the sensor, it receives twice the signal (a "linear" relationship). Pretty logical, right?

Also known as Image Stabilization (IS) or Vibration Reduction (VR), anti-shake technology is a method of reducing the effects of camera movement to the photographic image. Image stabilization can be achieved in the lens or in the camera body.
When VR/IS is on, the lens element(s) or image sensor move so that the image stays in place when projected onto the sensor. As a result, camera motion is less likely to affect the sharpness of your photographs.
I have done testing with my own lenses and I’ve come to the conclusion that even if the manufacturer indicates it’s safe to leave the IS feature turned on while using a tripod, it’s best to turn it off.
Image Stabilization (IS) - An optical system for removing or reducing camera movement in zoom lenses. Using gyroscopes an internal lens is moved around to counteract the movement of the camera.
However, using the standard filter sets limit you to grades, nearly as constricting as using graded papers (let's not argue ‘constricting' here- for the novice to intermediate printer, using graded papers IS constricting, not to say expensive.
Image Stabilization (IS). An optical or digital system built in to a lens for removing or reducing camera movement, most effective with telephoto or telephoto zoom lenses.
Metering and how to meter IS a very important part of good and creative exposure. I just thought it may have been too in depth for a "Basix" tutorial. But it is so important I think I will make it the subject of my next tutorial.

I currently use a Canon EOS 10D digital SLR with several lenses including a Canon 24-105 L IS and a Canon 100-400MM IS telephoto zoom.. My first digital camera was a Nikon Coolpix 990.
- Spend £300 on a 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 IS zoom: not as glamorous, but very sharp, 1/10 the price and only 2 stops slower. Spend the remainder on a month-long holiday to an exotic location taking pictures and learning how to use your equipment well.
Many new cameras now feature image stabilization (look for the letters "IS" or "AS" in the name) that compensate for shaky hands or long lenses.
