I switched from JPG to RAW a couple years ago and haven't looked back. The only negative (no pun intended) characteristic of RAW is that it eats a lot of hard drive space. But that's why they make external drives.
We all know that JPG use lose compression, so anything you save is always in exact terms worse than original. It may not look like because of the way it is compressed but it is.

I think I mentioned in another part of this tutorial series, how I am able to pull more detail out of the highlights, because my Camera actually records more of the highlights (not visible unless adjusted and defenitely clipped away for JPG).

Virtually all digital cameras save their pictures as JPG (Jay-peg) images because JPG images can be easily compressed. The program in the camera looks at the picture and sees if there are similar pixels in an area.

If all you shoot is JPG, most any browser is functional, including the ones packaged with the Microsoft XP and Apple OS X operating systems. Other software like ACDSee may be terrific for JPG, but a bit ponderous for RAW.
The JPG file format compresses data when you save it, so using a JPG is a good way to reduce the size of your file.
Most cameras are set to record their photographs in the JPG format, but if you don't mind a bit of a longer wait between photographs, setting the record format in or RAW will allow complete control of your photographic final results.
