AF Assist Lamp
By Vincent Bockaert
Some manufacturers fit their cameras with a lamp (normally located beside or above the lens barrel) which illuminates the subject you are focusing on when shooting in low light conditions.

Auto focus assist lamp
Digicams can be equipped with two kinds of autofocus. Active autofocus cameras emit an infrared beam which is reflected by the subject so the camera can focus on it.

a light source.
lampblack
a gray or black material made from soot obtained from the incomplete combustion of carbonaceous material used as a pigment to achieve a dull black ink with softer, grayer top tones and bluer undertones.

Lamp-life
The number of hours at which half of the test lamps fail. Tip: Shock, vibration, frequent on-off cycles, overvolting, power surges, obstructed ventilation, defective lamps, and other longevity-threats are not factored in.

Lamp black - pure carbon pigment, made from soot deposited from burning oils.
Lamp house - light tight housing of an enlarger or projector, which contains the light source.
Lantern slides - old term used to describe transparencies.

A lamp technology which involves a pair of electrodes inside a gas-filled tube. Light produced by the lamp depends on the gas in question. Fluorescent tubes, for example, produce ultraviolet energy. Carbon arc lamps produce white light.

-Arc lamp - photographic lamp in which light is produced by passing an electric current through two carbon rods.
-Argentotype - Mid-19th century silver print process, on which the kallitype and sepia paper processes are based.

Small lamp included in some flashguns (such as ring flash units and studio flashes) that provides a similar illumination pattern to the flash. As they can be illuminated continuously, they can be used to aid in the composition of a flash-lit scene.

LCD (liquid crystal display) projectors form the image on a panel of LCDs and a bright lamp and lens projects the image onto the screen.

In other words, the base of the negative (the shiny side) should be up or facing the lamp when inserted into the enlarger. Clean the negative and be sure there is no dust on it. You can use the light from the enlarger to check for dust.

This type of scanner will have 1200 sensors per linear inch but can move the scanning lamp and head or document at 2400 increments per inch. Scanners rated like this have an optical resolution of 1200 dpi and a 'mechanical' resolution of 2400 dpi.

Darkroom lights can be expensive, though photo supply shops often sell bulbs that can be used in any lamp or fixture, and are much cheaper.

The better solution is a head lamp, and the biggest name in head lamps is Petzl, a company that specializes in extreme outdoor gear.

If you are shooting indoors, you likely have the choice of shooting with or without a flash, near a window, lamp, or overhead light, or you may have access to specialized lamps and reflectors.

Next we need to install the lamp into the light. Make sure the light is NOT plugged in. Since the lamp is in a glass envelope you can touch it with no worries, screw the lamp into the socket making sure it is seated all the way in (figure 27).

Black and white printing paper is relatively insensitive to red light so safelighting usually takes the form of a lamp covered with a coloured filter. The colour will depend on the paper you are using and will be marked on the papers packaging.

A useful feature that reduces the lamp output to make the image gradually become darker on screen. This prevents the viewer from sudden bursts of light or dark as slides are changed and gives a more pleasing transition from one slide to the next.

Expose a sheet of paper for the time T; develop it for 50 seconds; turn on a 100- watt lamp about four feet over the tray for about three seconds, and continue developing for another minute.

Please note that the lamp has the same size on film for every focal length (so I moved my position according to the focal length as opposed to "zooming").

Condenser Enlarger: An enlarger using one or more glass condenser lenses between the lamp and film plane to provide a focused and even distribution of light.

At first glance, the images appear identical, but upon close examination it becomes clear that the 80a image shows no purple fringing around the overexposed desk lamp, and a little bit more shadow detail.

At an extreme level this might mean turning on all the lights in the room (and potentially destroying the mode) or it could mean moving your subjects to a better lit position near a lamp or light.

However, consider whether the picture might have looked better from a different angle, or later/earlier in the day when the lighting would be different. That shadow of a lamp post would not be in the same place...

Frontlighting: Light shining from the direction of the camera toward the subject.

An element of urban photography that's very easy for anyone to try. Every town has signs tucked away somewhere. Add to this the modern trend for stickers and flyers, that appear on phone boxes and lamp posts.

Flare - A series of bright polygons in the image caused by internal reflections within the camera's lens. Lens flare usually occurs when you shoot directly at a strong light source like the sun or a street lamp.

The SB26 simple altered the Red Eye reduction lamp a bit and added in a manual optical slave, for which Moose never felt compelled to buy into, preferring to work with the SB25s until the SB28 took over top spot.
