While looking for a new laptop I was blown away by how bright many of the LCD displays were.

Active-Matrix Display
A type of flat panel LCD display used in laptop and portable computers. Active matrix displays produce a superior image to passive matrix displays.
They don't read out and the display the data in real time, only after the exposure so they can't give real time LCD displays or record video.
Tran reflective. This is a type of LCD display that uses ambient light as well as a backlight to illuminate the pixels. It can be seen more easily in bright, outdoor conditions.
Composing through the viewfinder. Until the most recent models, digital SLR cameras could not display a live preview on their rear LCD displays. A DSLR camera must be held to the eye and you must compose the image through the viewfinder.
A lighting effect produced when the main light source is located behind the subject. Backlighting is also a technology for illuminating an LCD display from the rear, making it easier to view under high ambient lighting conditions.

Is date printing turned off? If the date back LCD display shows "----" then no date information will be printed. Try pushing the MODE button on the camera back, if it has one, until it displays the date.

and in some cameras, the ISO all automatically without you giving it a moment's thought. You can concentrate on composing the shot carefully and pressing the shutter release and you will be able to see your great pic on the camera's LCD display.
Especially laptop screens are very bad when it comes to color rendition.
A calibrated Windows Machine and a calibrated Macintosh will render the image exactly the same !
The calibration process on my LCD Display has resulted in a reduced brightness.
