Techniques Glossary Lens
This is the eye of the camera and is used to capture the image it sees onto the camera's light sensitive film, or CCD in digital camera. The size of lens is measured and indicated as a focal length.

Lens Cleaning Fluid
In most camera stores you'll find an alcohol based lens cleaning fluid that is well worth having. It will help you to lift off fingerprints and other smudges without leaving streaks on your lens or filter.

Lens Types
Lenses are divided into types, by focal length. These types-normal, short, and long, are based on camera format, so the same length lens may be long for a 35mm camera, but normal for medium format.

Lens Speed
Versatility and lens speed are closely related. Once you have a plan of what you want to photograph and understand under what conditions you'll be doing so, you can then pick a lens with the speed to match those conditions.

Lens Filters
A lens filter is a photographic tool that is placed over (either screwed or snapped onto) the camera's lens to alter the wavelengths of the light that enter the camera.

Lens
One or more pieces of optical glass or similar material designed to collect and transfer rays of light to form a sharp image on film, paper or a projection screen.

Lens specs:
Aperture range: F3.5 - F22
Weight: 165 grams
Size: 61x52mm
Mount: Micro-four thirds
Close-focus distance: Very very close, at just under 1 inch from the lens. The lens is capable of focusing inside the dome port.

A lens that has a focal length of 24 to 35mm are considered wide angle lens. Nowadays you can find great lenses that have a focal length under 24mm. These are considered as being ultra wide.

Step 4. Helpful Hints
We completed our primary task-getting rid of lens flare while shooting into the sun. But how do we get rid of lens flare while actully shooting the sun itself?

Basic Lens Types
At a glance there are three basic types of lenses: wide, normal and telephoto. All lenses, in some way, warp what they are looking at.

Adobe's lens profile corrections are amazing. Lens Corrections automates correction of standard lens distortions, including geometric distortion, chromatic aberration and vignetting.

Camera Lens
by Philip Greenspun
Once you've settled on the subject and the light, you have to decide on the relative prominence of objects in the scene.

Lens testing is fun and informative. While it won't turn you into a Cartier-Bresson, it will have a visible impact on your photography too: if you understand the way your lenses behave, you'll be able to make the most of them under all circumstances.

Lens flare (often referred to simply as "flare") is caused by a scattering and reflection of light inside the lens. Flare has two possible effects- a haze-like lack of contrast across the image or visible artifacts called flare patterns.

How to Clean UV Lens Filters
You should clean your UV filter about as often as you would clean a camera lens -- not very often.

Don't ask how; the lens fell on the rocks in the Utah desert.
Fortunately it was protected with its L37C UV filter and its reversed hood, so it was saved from worst damage.

Here we display the lens's chromatic aberration characteristics, defined as the amount by which the red- and blue-channel components of the test patterns are displaced from their 'correct' position (using the green channel as the reference).

The lens is quite large, and heavy (3 ounces). The added weight is good, as I've always found these tiny camcorders to be too light and small to keep steady. It has 3 elements in 3 groups. The optics are excellent. No vignetting, and zoom works fine.

When purchasing and using a telephoto lens keep the following in mind:
Use high shutter and film (ISO) speeds. A telephoto lens magnifies the image. As a consequence, the effects of camera movement are magnified as well.

Hopefully this article has helped you to better understand what to look for in a digital camera lens.

Using a macro lens to photograph leaves
Looking closely at the detail within nature has always held an endless fascination for me. Little wonder then, to find me pondering how to capture the amazingly intricate designs within leaf structures.

LENS - A true "lens" is a single piece of glass (or other transparent substance) having one or more curved surfaces used in changing the convergence of light rays.

Lens aberration
Optical flaws which are present in small amounts in all photographic lenses; made up of chromatic aberration, spherical aberration, curvature of field, distortion, etc.

Lens speed indicates how bright the image in the viewfinder will be. Lenses with larger maximum apertures provide a brighter viewfinder image but are not necessarily sharper or better than slower lenses.

Lens Or Mirror Diameter. Assuming that this is your first telescope a 4 inch lens should fit your needs.

Lens Coating A layer or multiple layers of thin, anti-reflective materials applied to the surface of lens elements to reduce light reflection and increase the amount of transmitted light.

Lens - disc (s) of optical glass used to form an image of a subject on a sensitive material [The enlarger uses a lens just like a camera. Lens come in many different types. Think of a pair of glasses to see better or differently.

Lens Flare
Lens Flare is an unwanted, plume of light in a photograph due to shooting directly into a light source, thereby causing the light to reflect and scatter inside the lens.

Lens Cleaning Kit
One of the most important digital camera accessories is lens and camera cleaning kit. If you have spent a lot of money on expensive equipment, it will not be of much use if it is full of fingerprints or dust particles.

Lens Choice
I use medium telephotos for most of my portraits of children. In the 6x7cm format, my two lenses of choice are the 250mm and 350mm lenses, comparable in the 35mm format to approximately 135mm and 150mm respectively.
