Dirty Lens Caps Mean Dirty Lenses
I've written before about keeping your lenses clean and even about keeping your camera bag clean. It occurs to me though that there is something else paying attention to in your cleaning regimen: your lens caps.

A number of cameras are fitted with lenses that go beyond the simple fixed focus, fixed focal length lenses of the budget cameras. The most common of these added features are: ...

Lens cap
Is a plastic, rubber or metal cover which fits over the front or back of the lens to protect it.

Put the lens cap on and keep the dirt away
Don’t be lazy - put the lens cap on whenever you’re not shooting. The cap protects the lens (or the filter, if you have one) from scratches and crud that may show up in the pictures you take.

Lens Cap
Lens
The cylinder-shaped part on the front of the camera through which light enters, so you can see the picture you want to take on the viewfinder and which strikes the camera sensor to record the picture digitally.

Use lens caps or covers to protect lenses. Store all small items and other accessories in cases and pack everything carefully so bangs and bumps won't cause them to hit each other.

Left lens cap on. Everything looked great in the viewfinder. Check the LCD.

2. Put a lens cap on the lens and take "Black Frame" shot with the same exposure time.
What is the idea.

4. Use your lens caps when you finish taking pictures, and when you change lenses. This keeps dust and oil off the elements, and prevents scratches and impact damage.

A wide lens captures a wider expanse of the background than what the human eye will see. Shorter-than-normal focal lengths such as 24mm and 35 mm are typical for a wide lens. Wide lenses are popular for landscape photography and large group shots.

Normally a white lens cap, made of a diffuse plastic material, is supplied with the camera. You also can use any white object to white balance the camera, providing the white object is illuminated under the same conditions that you will be shooting.

If you forget to do all these things, I guarantee you will go under water with either the lens cap on, strobes disconnected, or the lens on manual focus. Or you will shoot the entire dive on ISO 1600, small JPEG. You have been warned.

In ancient times a photographer would load his camera, remove the lens cap, time the exposure and put the lens cap back on.
As photographic materials became more sensitive to light, exposures became shorter and shutter techniques more sophisiticated.

GXR Interchangeable Unit Camera System features the world's smallest and lightest digital camera with interchanegable lens capability.

Fixed focus digital cameras tend to be less expensive than cameras with better lens capabilities. The occasional photographer can function quite adeptly with a fixed focus digital camera.

The method is simple but requires that your camera have a B setting and that you use a locking cable release and a lens cap or a small sheet of black cardboard.

1) Buy a true macro lens capable of reaching 1:1 magnification.
(see the previous section for an explanation of 1:1 magnification) This is the most expensive option, since true macro lenses aren't cheap.

The term stop is sometimes confusing due to its multiple meanings. A stop can be a physical object: an opaque part of an optical system that blocks certain rays.

On the left, you can see the cap with the lens cap adapter. On the right, you can see the lens. The adapter caused harsh vignetting, limiting the image circle severely. This was an easy mistake to make. Fortunately, I caught it almost immediately.

All front and rear lens caps removed, and lenses placed inside the camera bag (always in the same place).

N80 Custom Settings Pocket Guide & Lens Cap Decal
Nikon didn't provide the N80/F80 user with a Pocket Card for its Custom Settings, but Nikonian BJ Nicholls does here.

DSLR's offer interchangeable lens capability, true through-the-lens viewfinders, fast operation, and generally low digital noise.

However, the sharp lens captures not only the child's eyes but also every pore in the child's skin. This is very distracting and does not represent what the photographer experienced at the time of the capture.

The lens captures, concentrates, focuses and projects an image onto the light-sensitive, image-sensing digital "chip" inside the camera.

A: Careful as can be, lens cap ALWAYS on, but Murphy loves to strike when least expected, and that filter certainly came in handy. Thank you for your great tips and insight. We have all learned a lot.

-Anamorphic lens - lens capable of compressing a wide angle of view into a standard frame.
-Anastigmat - compound lens which has been corrected for the lens aberration "astigmatism".

Make sure that the mount is the right one for your camera.

You're interfering with the great camera/lens capabilities you could have with a matched body and lenses, and you can't possibly achieve optimal results.

A Nikkor lens capable of this magnification or thereabout has a "Micro" designation. When the magnification is still considerable but smaller than 1:2, e.g. 1:4, it is said to have "Macro" capability.

To make a black frame, place the lens cap over the lens and make an exposure using the same settings that you used during your shoot.

If you want to take multiple bursts on the same frame, just put the lens cap (or simply a thick cardboard or even your hand) on top of the lens (be careful not to touch the lens).

great article! , having some lens caps shipped in now to try it!

Macro Lens A lens capable of extreme close-up photography in which the captured image (on the film or image sensor) is typically from half life-size (1:2 reproduction ratio) to life-size (1:1 reproduction ratio).

Create a system of removing the body cap and rear end lens cap to minimize the time the camera is open. The longer the sensor is exposed, the more time there is for a spec of dust to lodge itself inside.

Put the lens cap on. Fire again. Strobe should dump full power as indicated by a blinking ready light and slow recycle.

Anamorphic lens

you just slide the lens cap open and you're ready to go. Along with its ease of use it has full manual mode...which has generated a lot of excitement. If you're looking for a high end consumer camera that you can grow into this may be the way to go.

One way to fight this is to shoot one photo with the same exposure time as your desired shot but with the lens cap ON. This will give you a black image, but the "hot" pixels will be visible.

2. Make an exposure at the same ISO of and at a similar duration as the images you wish to use the dark slide for, with the lens cap on.

1. Regularly clean your lens with a lint-free cloth, using towels or the bottom of the shirt can cause scratches on your lens, which can affect the quality of your pictures. Use a lens cap when your camera isn't in use to protect your lens.

This is how it works. The next time you're out to take night photos, go ahead and snap a picture of Scene A, as you normally would. Then, when it's convenient, take a photo of the exact same Scene A again, but with the lens cap on.

In other parts of the world, they inevitably stop me and open my bag, but it usually doesn't take quite as long. I've spent hours in security where they go through every last little piece of equipment. They'll take off every lens cap and swab each ...
