A device for viewing developed film or slides. It consists of a box of backlit balanced light behind a glass or plastic surface on which the film or slides are placed for viewing.

A box of fluorescent tubes balanced for white light and covered with translucent glass or plastic. Used for viewing, registering or correcting prints , film negatives and positives.

This can be anything from a commercial light box to an empty aquarium turned upside down over a shop light. Just be sure that you provide enough ventilation that the light box does not overheat.

Aligning a single unsharp mask with the originals can be accomplished on the light box with tape. This will work fine as long as you only wish to use a single mask during the printing stage.
You place your slides on the light box to copy. You also need an extension device, either bellows or tubes or a macro lens that can focus to life-size.
Put the slide on a light box, or some other source of even illumination and look at the it though the lens, with the back of the lens to your eye and the front facing the slide.

It is curious to note that there seems to be little said about the bulbs used in the light boxes. I know that for viewing my images and general lighing within the house) full-spectrum lighting makes a huge difference.
Light boxes or umbrellas would spread out the light, reducing or eliminating the hot spots. You would need a light box that is a bit larger than the artwork and its frame, in order to cover the entire thing.

Graphic arts departments prefer to examine transparencies on a light box. Many won't even accept negative film submissions.
On the other hand, this changes radically looking at projected slides or masked transparencies on a light box in a dark room. Now the shadows will start to glow on Velvia. If it was shot at 40 one will have duller highlights than if it was shot at 50.

You may want to apply the things you learned about product-photography and use that light box as a studio for your 'models'. I love borrowing dolls from my niece and getting a 'professional magazine like model' shoot.

I have been using a light box for a while with limited results but have read parts of Bryan Petersons book which has really helped since.
Transparency (slide). A positive image on a clear film base viewed by passing light through from behind with a projector or light box. Usually in color.
Tripod. A three-legged support for the camera.
Artificial Light - Light that comes from a fabricated source. It can refer to domestic lighting or studio lighting in the form of umbrellas and light boxes.
Your best way is to view slides or negatives directly with a loupe (magnifying lens), or magnifying glass, on a light box or similar. By regularly comparing a range of shots you'll get a good idea of what you're dealing with.
It’s better to be able to make an exposure decision when the images are spread out on a light box than to go back to do it again.
colours you see on screen are the same as those on your transparency. For this you can use calibration software such as OptiCal 3.3. If you are using a PC, set the gamma at 2.2 and the colour temperature to 5,500K, which is similar to a light box.
