Lighting
For good portraits or product shots, you need to improve on the camera's built-in flash. Direct on-camera flash creates hard shadows and doesn't give a picture the feeling of texture and depth that you can get from side-lighting.

Lighting can easily make or break your image. Positioned correctly, lighting can add a dramatic effect to your subject as well as accent and pull the subject off the background environment.

Backlighting is generally not recommended for the average person taking a picture. Backlighting, the opposite of front lighting, consists of keeping the sun behind the subject rather than the photographer.

Where lighting is less than optimum, you also have a number of options at your disposal if your camera provides more manual control over its functions.

Depending on the lighting conditions under which an image is made, it may be necessary to make some adjustments to your point and shoot to optimize the exposure.

A simple setup of lighting can help improve those pictures. Better lighting will help you remove that flash glare and the background clutter all at the same time.
