Low contrast detail
What the crops and graph don't show is the effect of noise reduction on low contrast fine detail such as hair, fur or foliage.

Low contrast
Low contrast compositions use colors within a narrow range of luminosity or brightness levels.
Moderate contrast
moderate contrast compositions use colors within a moderate range of luminosity or brightness levels.

Low-Contrast Filter
A camera filter that reduces contrast by adding subtle fog in dark areas.

Low contrast can have any number of causes including haze or smoke, low lighting levels, lens flare and just plain cheap glass.

ISO 160 low contrast films. These are designed for weddings where the groom wears black and the bride wears white and you want some detail in both fabrics. Also nice for smoothing out skin blemishes.

Flat - A low contrast image.
Frequency - The number of lines per inch in a halftone screen.
Gamma - A way of representing the contrast of an image, shown as the slope of a curve showing tones from white to black.

Soft light has low contrast. The bright areas and shadowed areas tend to blend together more easily than in hard light conditions.

Soft Lighting - low contrast lighting
Underexposure - when not enough light reaches the sensor making the picture too dark
Vignetting - underexposure at the edges of a picture ...

SOFT LIGHTING - Low contrast illumination.
SOLARIZATION - Print solarization occurs when a photographic print is partially developed, then exposed to white light before the print is completely developed.

Trigradient Control Curves As stated previously, the trigradient tone reproduction method is based on three tone-control curves (or printer curves): high contrast, medium contrast, and low contrast.

The DC RAW conversion engine with default settings makes very low key images (low contrast tone curve and maybe a 1/3 stop underexposed).

The low contrast of the scene delivers a dreamy feeling. The limited color palette also adds to the idealized setting, but all together the shot lacks drama.

I went for low contrast on these first shots—the makeup was softer as well at the start of the session.

Low contrast images will have a narrow basis with many pixels stacked together in the midtone area, while a high contrast image will have high levels of black and white and fewer grays. RGB images have a separate histogram for each color.

Low contrast originals won't need flashing, but high contrast images will be produced too contrasty unless you fog the film to some degree. Slide duplicators are the most expensive method of getting duplicates.

Low contrast negatives can be corrected by printing on a contrasty paper; conversely a very contrasty negative can be printed on a low contrast paper. [2] Because of decreased demand, many extreme paper grades are now discontinued.[5] ...

Polydisperse emulsions generally have low contrast (low slope in the H & D curve) because the H & D curves of the grains of different size combine to give a resultant H & ...

Negative film gains its increased dynamic range by virtue of its low contrast. When you increase the contrast of images to return them to a normal range of contrast, noise becomes more pronounced.

When we talk about contrast in photography, it's usually in terms of dark versus light, low contrast versus high contrast. In black-and-white photography, the contrast between white, grey and black elements is called tonal contrast.

I liked the low contrast and decided to make it even lower, which I did by setting Blacks to zero and Fill light to 11, then adjusting the Exposure to suit.

A typical indoor scene with low contrast will have low dynamic range; an outdoor scene in bright sunlight with bright highlights and deep shadows will have high dynamic range.

Flat Lighting Lighting source or method that produces a low contrast image or depicts a subject with little dimensionality. Flat A term often used to indicate an image that's too low in contrast; a "flat" image.

ISO 25-100-Very fine grained and low contrast.
ISO 100-400-Fine to Medium grain and higher contrast.
ISO 400-3200-Heavy grain and considerable contrast.

Hunting
An autofocus system that has trouble finding the focus in a low contrast image or in poor light 'hunts'; this is where the lens moves continuously from close-up to infinity looking for the correct point of focus .

One weakness is that the contact information has a very low contrast against the background. A darker color would help to highlight it.

Flat. An image with low contrast is said to appear flat.
'Flat' images. Images that are low in tonal contrast, appearing gray and muddy.

Flat gradation
A subjective photographic term used to describe low contrast values.

This graph does not spread all the way from full black to full white. As a result the image will have low contrast.
To fix this, we use the small triangle controls under the graph to adjust the "white point" and "black point".

Macro photography is one photographic genre that benefits from the soft light and low contrast that dull grey weather conditions bring. Employing some simple tried and tested techniques will certainly improve your macro photography no end.

Soft Lighting
Lighting that is low or moderate in contrast, such as on an overcast day. Low contrast illumination.
Soft Proof
Viewing a digital image with a monitor instead of generating a hard copy proof.

The images will just look uninteresting, blurry, with low contrast. We try to be outside of the rain so we can see the storm structure.

This is a term that represents a picture's contrast level. A high gamma measurement is high contrast and a low reading is low contrast.
Frame Rate
This is a measurement of how many frames are viewed or sent per second.

A fine grain film that’s available in both moderate and high-saturated versions, a favorite of wedding photographers because of its low contrast and ability to capture a wide dynamic range. Available in ISO 160 and 400 in 35mm and medium format.

If the image is low contrast, you can also tell if it's low-key or high-key from the histogram. A low key image has details concentrated at the dark end of the scale. A high-key image has them concentrated at the light end.

flash or added light, in lower quality images with low contrast and dull color. As well, the
resolution will be lower, because a higher ISO light sensitivity will likely be needed on to
compensate for the lack of ample light.

For example adding a blue filter to a bright outdoor scene makes the blue sky even brighter. Each image is different, but using the Channel Mixer to create a black and white picture will allow contrast and depth to remain in the image where a ...

HI-KEY/LOW-KEY
A contrast between an object and its surrounding can either stress the importance with a high contrast or hide it via low contrast..

A measure of the rate of change of brightness in an image; high contrast suggests content consisting of dark blacks and bright whites; medium contrast implies a good spread from black to white; and low contrast implies a small spread of values from ...

There is never just one level of contrast that will work for a photo so the photographer has to make a decision. An underexposed photo will have lower contrast than a properly exposed one. If low contrast is the desired effect then underexposing a ...

High Key is a lighting descriptive term that is characterized by having the fill light be at or near the key (or main light) to produce a more uniformly illuminated image. High Key images have low contrast.

Gamma - A measure of the amount of contrast found in an image according to the properties of a gradation curve. High contrast has high gamma and low contrast low gamma.

The apparent difference in brightness between lightest and darkest areas of an image. Usually refers to the gradation between black and white. Fewer gray values are described as "high contrast." Many shades of gray is low contrast.

However, simple predictive tracking AF does not provide maximum focusing performance for a subject that abruptly changes direction moving at high speed or a subject with low contrast moving randomly.

Singh-Ray), there may not be enough space to include a lens hood in order to prevent lens flare. Use your hand instead or, ideally, compose your picture then use your body to shade the lens once the camera is on a tripod. Expect hazy, low contrast ...

The modes are: Velvia/Vivid (for dramatic full saturation colour), PROVIA/Standard (for classic ‘neutral' photography), ASTIA/Soft (for gentle, low contrast portraiture and soft, fine, smooth tonality), Sepia (for antique, ...

Shooting in haze or strong wind conditions - In a case of haze or strong wind condition, the auto focus mechanism might have a difficulty focusing. Manual focus is the best solution in this case.
Low contrast between objects - If the main object and ...

Values worse than 90% represent a bad performance!
A lens showing good contrast but low sharpness can indeed appear SHARPER than a lens of low contrast and high sharpness! However, "sharp" lenses are normally also "contrasty" lenses.

And you should be operating on the expectation that you will face problems with blurring of the subject and general low sharpness and low contrast if you use an affordable consumer telephoto zoom lens.

As well the camera may be fixed to take images with low contrast levels. So you may see a whiteish mesh in the overall image. It's best to upload images you take to a computer and have it enhanced.
