Low Pass Filter. Most DSLR's (Digital SLR's) employ a Low Pass Filter (LPF) or Anti-Aliasing (AA) filter in front of the sensor to help eliminate problems with colour aliasing (moiré).

The sensor cleaning system of the Rebel T1i has been upgraded to include what Canon calls a "fluorine coating" on the low pass filter (I presume this is a fluoride coating, since fluorine is a corrosive gas!).
