Macro Focusing Often refers to the capability of certain zoom lenses in which the lens group moves, enabling the lens to focus closer than the normal close-up focusing distance.

Since DOF is so small, it's usually a good idea to use manual focusing for 1x macro shots so you get the DOF exactly where you want it.

MACRO FOCUSING & DEPTH OF FIELD
Photos at high magnification have a correspondingly shallow depth of field. Precisely controlling the location of focus is therefore much more important than normal.

One of those very important extra bits of equipment is the macro focusing rail.

The best way to make framing and focusing easy is to use a geared macro focusing rail. You mount your camera on the focusing rail and then mount this device with your camera/lens attached on your tripod.

the most daunting task I have ever experienced with my 60mm Macro focusing on the right spot and keeping the focus as it is. At extreme end of micro, when you are 1:1 on your subject, the DoF is unimaginably narrow. The light is also a great concern.

5 Series 1 Macro Focusing Auto Zoom. I had just picked one up, complete with original Series 1 logo cap, for a whopping $35. Guess what? It still works great.
