Macro mode
Normally the term macrophotography refers to images in which the subject is presented at a ratio greater than 1 to 1, so bigger than lifesize. It could be compared to looking at a subject through a magnifying glass.

Remember as a kid discovering the whole new world beneath your feet while playing on the grass? When you got very close to the ground, you could see an entire community of creatures that you never knew existed.

Macro Mode
If you take pictures of flowers a lot (I do), this mode is invaluable. The Macro Mode allows you to focus on objects at amazingly small distances - sometimes just centimeters from the lens.

Macro mode is usually indicated by a flower symbol on the mode dial or elsewhere.

Macro mode is really characterized by how close the subjects are and how much of the frame they fill. Generally speaking, there is only one subject (or a tight cluster of subjects) which fills most of the frame and is 0′-6′ (0m-2m) away.

1.Macro mode. Change the camera setting to macro mode. It is usually the little flower symbol in most cameras. When the macro mode is selected, the camera will automatically focus on the subject close to the lens of your camera.

Still, macro mode is better than nothing. The camera may be more difficult to focus than usual, but turning on macro mode will allow you to take close-ups of small objects. Consider it practice for shooting with a macro lens.

Here's an area where some compact digital cameras have a definite edge over DSLRs and interchangeable-lens compacts: the ability to easily capture dramatic, challenging wide-angle macro photos.

This setting allows you to take close-ups, even extreme close-ups, of small objects, such as flowers, insects, etc.

Those lenses have to be switched to a special macro mode. Modern digicam zoom lenses have macro modes for minimal image subject distances between 1 (!) and 10 cm. Lenses with a longer tube elongation added may allow shorter distances.

The accompanying image of the rose was photographed using this macro mode.

Get closer than normal by using the macro mode on your camera. The flower icon button activates the macro mode and enables you to focus closer to your subject and capture details in your images that were previously too small or out of focus.

7m (1:3) while the Canon only focuses to 5m (1:9) - however performance does drop when the Tamron is used in the Macro mode, thought it may still be acceptable.

When using the SU-800 commander in macro mode, the flash adjustment procedure does change significantly. Instead of 3 fully independent flash banks, the macro mode uses a simple flash ratio slider bar similar to the Canon E-ttl system.

Many digital compact cameras, when set to macro mode and zoomed to the shortest focal length, can focus up to rediculously short distances and with a minimum focus distance of 1 cm, the LX3 is no exception.

If you are using a compact digital camera, then setting this to "macro mode" will enable closer focusing distances - and greater magnifications. If you are using a digital SLR camera, then your options are more numerous.

Several HP digital cameras feature macro mode in Aperture Priority shooting mode, which you should use when you want specific control over the aperture (for example, ...

For example, if you are using a camera model where the minimum distance to the subject is 50 cm, using macro mode allows you to move in as close as 20 cm from the subject. This distance may be even shorter depending on the camera.

Usually marked by a flower symbol, the macro mode will open up a whole new range of underwater subjects. But when you're working that close, be sure to turn the strobe's power setting way down.

Macro mode - This mode usually refers to a lens that can focus closer than its designated focal length, but the term is often used to describe any facility for taking extreme close-ups.

Camera. For photographing objects the camera should either be set to macro mode or you should use the manual settings. If your camera allows you to customize the white balance, use it for better color.

Users of compact, point and shoot cameras can also take macro photographs as most of these cameras have a macro mode setting on them.

A side benefit of this arrangement is that it allowed the AX to feature a macro mode which worked much like a built-in 10 mm extension tube, allowing for a magnification ratio higher than 1:1 without the use of bellows or extension tubes.

Another less obvious reason may be that Cheryl is using the scene modes of her camera. Maybe the macro mode simply is adjusted to produce more saturated colors. Maybe you could try it out and post the results here?

Another point to consider is if it's quite windy out there, you might not be able to use a slow shutter speed for maximum depth of field (in macro mode, depth of field is already at a minimum, ...

and the closer the focused distance, the less the depth of field. Wide-angle lenses have inherently more depth of field at each f-number and telephoto lenses have less. Zoom lenses in telephoto mode have less depth of field than in macro mode.
