The Main Light

Outdoors the brightest source of light is usually the sun. In the studio, the sun's role is filled by the main light. Like the sun it's the brightest source of light and casts the darkest shadows.
The main light (a.k.a. key light) is usually the most important in a lighting setup.
Isolate Your Main Subject
Sometimes a picture just has too many places for the eyes to focus on. On a trip to Canada's Wonderland, I took a picture of the lifeguard watching the children (including mine) having a blast on the water slides.
Main Effects
First, the main effects of the controls need to be analyzed. The main effect of a control is how that control performed on average. For instance, the Exposure control was tested at two settings: at the default (0) and at -1.50.

MAIN LIGHT - Same as "Key light"- the principal source of light, usually in a studio, and generally the brightest light on a subject or scene.
