Manual focus
Method of focusing the lens, using either a rotating mechanical action or a motorised method, where you enter a distance on the camera. Cameras with mechanical actions often have an aid to help you focus correctly.

Without a manual focus screen you're just going to have squint through the viewfinder and hope. Or buy an actual manual-focus camera that fits your lens.

Manual focus is useful for low light, macro or special effects photography. It is very important when the autofocus system is unable to get a good focus lock, e.g. in low light situations.

Manual flash
Flash output is controlled manually in manual flash mode unlike in auto flash mode, where flash output power varies automatically according to the selected aperture. Some Speedlights, example like the Nikon SB 27, SB 26, SB-25.

Manual Exposure (M) Mode
For total exposure control, especially in tricky lighting situations that can fool a camera's exposure meter, choose the Manual Exposure mode.

Manual focus or autofocus- Which one is the best for you?
Some photographers choose to operate their focus manually, because they like the feel of full control over every photo they take.

Manual White Balance. Most digital cameras also allow you to choose a white balance mode manually. Choosing a manual white balance gives you a consistent white balance within a series of photographs.

Manual White Balance Adjustments
In most cases you can get a pretty accurate result using the above preset white balance modes - but some digital cameras (most DSLRs and higher end point and shoots) allow for manual white balance adjustments also.

When photographing animals you need a lot of patience, they either do nothing for long periods of time or they are so hyperactive that you can't keep them in the viewfinder.

Manual focus is the way to go. Autofocus often struggles and hunts when you move in close and it’s possible to miss the shot. I pre-focus manually and move the camera to and from the subject to achieve accurate focus.
