It's funny. You'd think that with all the technology we've invented, there would no longer be a need for manual mode in photography.

Manual mode allows you to set both your aperture and shutter speed separately, without the camera automatically changing the other to suit. With this in mind, you can be more creative with your shots.
Manual Mode
Manual Mode is the camera setting mode in which all the functions are controlled by the photographer (i.e. focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, flash exposure value, etc.).
Manual Mode - Gives users full control of their camera enabling them to hand set the aperture and shutter speed.
Matrix Meter - Analyzes lighting in the scene to set the optimal exposure.

Manual Mode
In this mode you have full control over your camera and need to think about all settings including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, flash etc. It gives you the flexibility to set your shots up as you wish.

Manual Mode (M)
In this mode, you can manual set the shutter speed and the aperture value. Most camera models display how much your setting combination is diffrent from the optimum exposure setting metered by the camera.

No Manual Mode?
If you have no manual exposure mode, use the Aperture-Priority (A or Av) mode instead.
Using manual mode
If you work in manual mode, it's relatively straightforward to correct for exposure errors. If the image is too dark, for example, you can dial-in a slower shutter speed or choose a larger aperture to allow more light in.
Metered Manual mode (M).
In this mode you set both the lens aperture and the shutter speed completely manually. If your camera has a rear (back panel) dial then you set the shutter speed with the main dial and the aperture with the rear dial.
Manual Mode. What you see will vary according to the make and model of camera you are using but will probably be along the lines of the following.
Manual Mode
In this camera mode, anything goes. You can set the shutter speed and aperture, with options to change white balance, ISO, flash and even focus on some cameras.
Manual mode is the easiest way to shoot in these conditions. I started by setting the shutter speed to thirty seconds and putting it in shutter priority mode to get a suggested reading for the ISO and aperture.
Manual mode, Base ISO (usually ISO 100 or 200), F13, 1/200th (or whatever your maximum shutter sync speed is); single-spot focus; center-weighted metering.
In Manual mode (*), you are in full control of your photographs by choosing both the f-stop and the shutter speed. Most of my work is done in this mode.

In manual mode, a knowledgeable user may also increase the ISO as an educated decision when he or she will be shooting in lower light, using a smaller aperture (higher f-stop number) and/or using a faster shutter speed.

In manual mode the exposure dial works the other way round: you choose an aperture and shutter speed, and the metering system will set the exposure dial to tell you how light or dark the object you're pointing at is: ...
I use manual mode and a 50mm lens set at f2 to f2.8 on my D200 (used to use a D70)for basketball and volleyball. I use the spotmeter and dial in -1 or -.7 exposure compensation. I set the shutter speed at 1/250th and enable the auto-iso function.
Within manual mode you get a choice of aperture priority, shutter priority or program.
When in manual mode, the 430 EX Canon flash gives all its power to the scene, at times empting it's capacitor in a single flash.
M = Fully Manual Mode
In this mode, the settings of the camera are fully manual (shutter speeds, aperture, ISO, etc). Most suitable for indoor studio photography, this setting can also be used outdoors.
3. Shoot in manual mode. I set my aperture on my digital SLR to f/5.6, the spot where I think my lens is at its sharpest.
4. Use a long lens. My lens reaches to 200mm, but a longer focal length is preferred, 400mm to 500mm would be ideal.

Take pictures in manual mode. Remember that because the lens itself isn't attached to your camera, you'll lose autofocus and aperture control.
When the flash unit is in the manual mode, the f/stop must be changed each time the flash-to-subject distance changes. A scale on the flash unit indicates the proper f/stop to use for the various distances.
Early cameras only had a manual mode (M) where the user had to select the aperture and shutter speed manually to ensure the correct exposure.

- Ability to set the camera to manual mode. This allows for much more creativity. Personally, I'd never give anyone a camera without this. It's like giving someone a coloring book and insisting they 'stay inside the lines,' vs.
After some conversations with experienced digital photographers, I had decided to shoot in Manual mode, rather than Aperture or Speed priority. I used a YS90DX strobe, designed for digital cameras.
Shooting in Manual mode, make one exposure configured to capture the best highlight detail. Make a second exposure to capture the best shadow detail. Then combine the two exposures in Photoshop as separate Layers.
For indoors shots, if I can, I use Manual mode without flash and setting the WB manually according to the predominant light source (lamp or nearby window). It gives beautifull smooth images. This is when digicams are simply great.
You’ll learn when to use shutter priority, aperture priority, or manual mode instead of always shooting on program mode. You’ll learn about different file formats such as JPEG and RAW, and when and why to use them.
In Manual mode, you can see the graphic meter display ranging typically from -2 to +2, and if you change the Exposure Compensation control to +1, you will be able to see the meter reading go down one stop.
These Nikon digital cameras offer full manual modes, manual focus, various shutter speeds, white balance, aperture priority etc.
With your ISO set to a relatively slow speed (ISO 100 or 200), take a meter reading of your subject with your camera's exposure mode set to either shutter-priority or manual mode.

Using this table, I can run the flash in manual mode and get consistent results. I had to experiment with a roll of Ektachrome to discover that the real Guide Number for the Vivitar 550FD with a Lumiquest Pocket Bounce is 17.8 (feet @ 100 ASA).

Conceptually, automatic cameras are pretty much the same as fully manual models, but everything is controlled by a central microprocessor instead of the user.
Now let's take a look at creative exposure modes. Except for the Manual mode, which I used for this picture of an iceberg in Antarctica, creative exposure modes are automatic-but not fully automatic. You can still take control and be creative.
The White Balance setting on your digital camera should have an auto mode, and a manual mode that allows you to set to daylight, overcast or cloudy, tungsten and FL for fluorescence light.
To bracket, set your camera to manual if not already in manual mode. Next, change the exposure by changing either the f-stop or shutter speed. In my example, I changed the f-stop from 4.0 to 3.2 and kept the exposure time at 1/200.
Sometimes called a "PASM" dial, they typically provide as minimum Program, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority, and full Manual modes. Scene modes vary and are inherently less customizable.
The imGoogleMaps plugin comes with two modes. The auto mode can be used for a quick simple set up. The manual mode is much more robust as it can display custom markers, street view, and the ability to plot multiple addresses from a json record.
Are 6 megapixels enough or do you need 12 or even 22 megapixels to take good photographs? Will you be comfortable with 3 manual modes or do you require endless menus and settings to be prepared for every possible scenario that may occur?
Aliasing A type of digital image distortion most often seen when straight lines or edges in a digital image are enlarged to the point at which they appear jagged. A/M A/M stands for Auto-Priority Manual Mode.
I will then inspect the exposure and histogram, and switch back into manual mode.
Shooting with a single lens reflex Nikon will spoil you forever, but you need a semblance of photography experience to feel comfortable with a camera that can easily switch from point-and-shoot to full manual mode.
Although in the hands of an inexperienced photographer a 'Matrix' style meter will achieve more correct results many professionals still prefer to use their cameras in manual mode with the meter set to 'centre weighted'! ...
The flash exposure is then calculated based on whatever remaining light is necessary to illuminate the subject. Manual mode therefore enables a much broader range of flash ratios than the other modes.
