Matte box is a mask used to make images suitable for wide-screen projection. Meniscus lens is a simple lens consisting of a single piece off glass, thicker at the center than at the edges. It has one concave and one convex face.
When photographing glass products, you should always use a matte box over the camera lens. When the lighting produces a true silhouette, some highlights (fig. 6-16) may be desired to add sparkle to the glass.
Hollywood uses square filters in elaborate matte boxes, and thus the Schneider grads are squares and rectangles.
