Monochrome Afterimages
If a black object on a white background (or vice versa) is being focused on for several seconds, and then a white area is being focused on, a negative afterimage is perceived. The afterimage may last for one to two minutes.

Monochrome
One color. Monitors, for example, can be monochrome, grayscale or color. Monochrome monitors actually use two colors, one for the display image (the foreground) and one for the background.

monochrome
An image composed of a single color and black. Most monochrome images are black and white, although any color might be substituted for white. Also called 1-bit images.

The monochrome option is checked. The Red, Green, and Blue sliders are adjusted to maximize the amount of detail. Moving a slider to the right increases the amount of detail taken from that channel.

"Enhance Monochrome Contrast" is the same as the Auto Contrast menu command. "Enhance Per Channel Contrast" does the same thing as Auto Levels, and "Find Dark and Light Colors" is where Adobe hid the equivalent of Auto Color.

1-Bit Image - A digital image which is monochrome, either black or white pixels. Only 1 bit of data is required for each pixel.
8-Bit Image - A digital image that utilizes 8 bits of data for each pixel. The image may contain up to 256 colors.

Your signature is line art, as are many monochrome logos. Surprisingly, scanning line art requires relatively high resolutions to achieve good results. If you scan under 1200 dpi, your results may not be smooth and sharp.

Monochrome images use gradients of both black and white to create a tonal range in the picture.

Begin by opening your image in Photoshop or Elements. We are using a monochrome shot as levels adjustments can have a more noticeable impact when adding contrast to a black and white image.

Sepia options are available on many digital cameras. While sepia is a monochrome color scale (like black and white), it uses a brown-scale, rather than grayscale. With an early 1900s feel, sepia tone can produce ghostly, surreal images.
