Not only does this get you 100 megapixels, but 100 million better pixels than you'd get from traditional 100 MP digital camera. Scanned film pixels are better than digital camera pixels.

MP-E 65mm f2.8 1-5X Macro
This is a very specialized macro lens. It gives from 1x to 5x magnification. It's a "macro only" lens in that it's not designed (and can't be used) for non-macro work since it won't focus at non-macro distances.

(MP) Having a resolution of one million pixels. A megapixel digital camera has an image resolution of 1280 x 960 pixels or greater. The most common digital cameras are rated at 1.3 megapixel, 2.11 megapixel and 3.34 megapixel.

Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo Manual Focus Telephoto Lens focuses down to 1:5 (five times life size!) for super macro shots. If you are getting serioius about getting close and you're a Canon shooter, this $1,050 lens will get you there.

Canon MP-E 65mm f2.8 1X to 5X Macro Lens
My current solution for reproduction ratios larger than life size is Canon's new MP-E 65mm f2.8 1X to 5X macro lens. This lens is fairly compact, at 3.5 inches long by 3 inches in diameter and 30 oz.

I use an MP-1 from WRP as my main camera bag. I used to carry my Lowepro ProTrekker, but the MP-1 is much lighter and allows me to pack more in the same space. I've also replaced my Lowepro NatureTrekker with a WRP MP-3 for the same reasons.

The high MP means I can crop out great shots taken at distance, are there any othe suggestions?
Also - any suggestions on the best reasonably priced sports lens I could get for Canon 50D which would be good for both outdoor and low light sports?

Megapixel (MP)
One megapixel is equal to one million pixels. Your digital camera's image sensor captures each picture you take as a series of extremely tiny points, or pixels. The resolution of each picture is measured in megapixels.

Nikon Coolpix 12 MP Digital Camera
Starting with what will probably be the best on the list, the Nikon Coolpix is one hell of a force to be reckoned with in terms of entry-level point and shoot cameras.

That's a mighty expensive 5 MP camera.
The D300 continues with the pop-up flash of its predecessors. I have no idea why since these things are only marginally useful.

The lenses made by Tominon for the Polaroid MP-4 system are readily available used at very modest prices.

The Canon MP-E65/2.8 1X to 5X macro lens is an excellent choice for those using the Canon digital macro system, in that it offers superb results with magnifications from 1X to the equivalent of 8X, depending upon which camera is being used.

Lately there have been many "experts" that have come onto the forum boards to prove that more MP does not equate to more noise in tiny sensors and, as you would expect, they have the equations and formulas to prove it.

For instance, if your camera is rated at 10 megapixel (MP) and you choose to drop the quality from "highest" to the "lowest" setting, your pixel rating has dropped from 10 MP to perhaps as low as 2 MP.

If you get a smaller camera, don't worry too much about the megapixels: Get a 3, 4, maybe 5 MP camera, and use the money you save (from NOT having bought a higher-resolution camera) to buy a camera with a bigger screen, image stabilization, ...

If you're only interested in snapshots (4" x 6" or 5" x 7"), then 5 MP will probably do the trick. If you want to create a 16" x 20" or poster-sized image, you'll need up to 6 MP or more.

The higher the resolution, the more pixels in an image and therefore the greater the image quality. An image file that is 1 megapixel (MP) can make a photo realistic print of 5 x 7 inches; a 2 MP file can make an 8 x 10-inch print; ...

The most commonly used in more advanced cameras now is Matrix, also known as Multi-pattern (MP) or segment metering, that takes readings from several parts of the scene and produces a calculated average.

Yet I have taken another fork in the imaging road and migrated totally to digital, shooting the 16.7 MP Canon EOS1DsMKII in a Seacam housing, with strobes by both Ikelite and Inon.

19 MP). I cropped it to concentrate on the finely detailed main subjects, resulting in an image measuring 2136x1656 pixels, or 3.5 megapixels. I would now enlarge this to 16x20 inches at 250 dpi (the recommended resolution for the gallery wraps).

Resolution
The resolution of a digital photo is dependent on how many pixels it contains. My camera (Nikon D300) has 12.2 Million pixels (or 12.2 MP) which is 4288 pixels (wide) x 2848 pixels (high).

Next multiply the two pixel dimensions together. For an 8x10 this comes out to 7.2 million pixels, or 7.2 megapixels. This is the preferred number of MP you need if an 8x10 print is the largest you are likely to print.
