Multiple Exposures
The basic idea behind this approach is that the camera is set on a tripod and multiple shots are taken, each at a different exposure. A typical example would be where two shots are taken.

Most cameras automatically advance to the next picture when you take a photo. However, a multiple exposure mode allows you to superimpose two or more images before you advance.
Multiple Exposure: Multiple exposure lets you expose two or more shots on a single frame. A handful of manual focus cameras had this feature.
Multiple exposure settings, including Green, Program, Sv, Tv, Av, TAv, M, Bulb, X-sync, and USER modes, provide extensive creative control over the exposure for photographers of all experience levels.
Multiple exposures can eliminate noise and also reveal more fine image details in the highlights and shadows. This will be most noticeable in the sharp specular highlights and pronounced textures.

A good thing to try is to use multiple exposure settings. I use a technique called bracketing (which simply means shooting the same picture at different exposures) to get the best shot.
