Negative carrier.
A holder in a photographic enlarger or computer film scanner into which the negative is placed.

A frame that holds a negative flat in an enlarger.
Negative Holder

Negative carrier supports the negative between the light source and the enlarging lens of an enlarger.

Whether you currently shoot film or just used to shoot film photography, chances are that you now need to convert some of those images into a digital format.

ENLARGER AND EASEL ADJUSTMENTS Insert the negative in the negative carrier so the emulsion side is down when placed in the enlarger.

The filter drawer is above the negative carrier and above the condenser lens On an Omega C700, it is where the Omega name appears. Pull the tab and a small drawer pulls out. Place the filter in this drawer.

The parts of the enlarger includes baseboard, enlarger head, elevation knob, filter holder, negative carrier, glass plate, focus knob, girder scale, timer, bellows, and housing lift.[3]

1. Place the negative upside- down in the negative carrier of the enlarger. This is done so that the final posterization is not a mirror image of the desired picture.

-Sandwiching - combination of two or more negatives or film positives in the negative carrier or masking frame when printing or enlarging.

This was in fact also true of film Leicas, but was masked somewhat by things like slide mounts and negative carriers and the "normal" cropping of minilabs or magazine pages.

If cost is an issue, check auction sites that have good used equipment. Make sure that the enlarger you purchase has a standard lens mount, an option for a glass-less negative carrier.

LPL, Durst and Bessler though there are heaps more and the enlarger you end up buying is as personal a choice as buying a car (though hopefully a little cheaper). Check that it's got a standard lens mount, an option for a glassless negative carrier ...
