Nicad Batteries: A type of dry cell battery that can be recharged an almost indefinite amount of times. Improper handling of nicads will result in battery "memory", which will impede full charging.
NiCad batteries - Nickel cadmium batteries are losing favor as a power source for personal electronics because of the frequent need for recharging.
Nicd or NICAD
Nikel Cadmium. Used as the backbone of most rechargeable batteries. Though not so lasting as alkaline, but have a better resistance to cold than alkaline.

Batteries or Nicads?
Dry cell batteries are easy to use, but expensive when compared with rechargeable Ni-cad batteries. As dry cell batteries lose their power the recycle time of the flashgun increases.
Batteries for digital cameras can range from AA size to NiCad (nickel-cadmium), to NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) to lithium ion.

The Compact Battery Pack E requires 6 regular AA alkaline, NiCad or NIMH cells, but the newer Compact Battery Pack CP-E2 can also accept lithium AA cells. Either compact pack can be attached to the bottom of a camera using the tripod mounting screw.
NiCad _ an abbreviation for nickel cadmium _ are more temperamental, creating a "memory effect" if not charged properly. NiCad batteries will lose their capacity over time, so if given the choice, choose NiMH or lithium ion batteries.
They are rechargeable like Nicad batteries but they are safe to throw away in landfills. They also do not exhibit the "memory" effect that Nicad batteries have shown to exhibit. They need chargers that are specifically made for NiMH batteries.
NiMH batteries don't have the 'memory' problems that NiCads do, but they will suffer 'voltage depression' if they are not occasionally fully discharged.

AA Filter - Most Digital SLR's have a "Low Pass Filter" (LPF) or AA (Anti-Aliasing) Filter in front of the CCD or CMOS sensor. This helps to eliminate colour aliasing problems, or the "moire" effect.
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd or Nicad)
As the first rechargeable battery for electronic devices, such as DSLRs, NiCads have given way to its successor, NiMH.

The Ikelite 200 is my personal favorite for shipwreck photography because it has a nicad pack for fast recycle; a wide angle of coverage, particularly when a diffuser is added; and a model light bright enough to function as a primary light.
