Non-lossy (a.k.a. lossless)
A term that refers to data compression techniques that do not remove image data details in order to achieve compression.

 


Non-lossy: a.k.a. lossless. Term that refers to data compression techniques that do not remove image data details in order to achieve compression.

These files are compressed, but in a non-lossy manner. They are significantly smaller than equivalent TIFF files, but larger than JPEGs.

Lithium batteries are lighter and more costly than NiMH or NiCd although they can be charged more rapidly.
LZW
A non-lossy compression scheme (by Lempel, Ziv and Welch). Generally LZW can compress an image down to a ratio of 2:1.

PNG does support transparency, which JPEG doesn't, and PNG is a better choice than JPEG for images that contain text or line art, as it does better with sharp transitions. PNG uses non-lossy compression, ...
