Normal lens
Techniques Glossary Normal lens
A lens that's also called standard because it has a focal length roughly the same as the diagonal of the film format and is around the same magnification as the naked eye.

Beyond Normal: Multiply and Screen Blending Mode
Normally, layers in an image are merged using a blending mode appropriately known as "Normal." But learning what other blending modes do can go a long way towards improving your Photoshop skills.

Normal Focal Lengths
It's hard to look at a photo and tell what focal-length lens was used to take it. However, objects in an image taken with a normal lens look normal in their spatial relationships.

Xtranormal is loads of fun for photographers
Trust us, it is ridiculously simple to use Xtranormal to make short animated videos. If you can type, and drag a mouse, you can be a cinematographer. Read more ...

Normal, Wide-Angle, Telephoto, Zoom
We usually categorize lenses as having a wide-angle, normal or telephoto focal length.

Normal Lens
A lens that makes the image in a photograph appear in perspective similar to that of the original scene (approximately 45°).

Normal Lenses
For 35mm format the standard normal lens is 50mm in focal length. The term ‘normal' derives from the approximation of our vision. The angle of view of a 50mm lens is about 60º, close to our own (human) visions.

Normal lenses provide about the same perspective as the human eye and are usually in the 45mm-to-60mm range (again, in 35mm format equivalent). On most zoom cameras, the normal focal length is typically in the middle area of the zoom range.

NORMAL LENS - Lens with a focal length approximately equal to the diagonal of the film format.

Normal lens
By taking a photo with a lens with a "normal" focal length, you'll capture the same angle of view as seen by the human eye.

Normal Lens
Normal lens (also called standard lens) refers to a camera lens that most accurately represents the angle of view, image size and lack of optical distortion that is closest to the human eye; usually a 45mm to 65mm lens.

Normal Lenses
A normal or standard lens is light in weight and approximates the perspective of the human eye. Normal lenses have large maximum apertures, indicated by small f-numbers such as f/1.4 or f/1.

In this mode the camera operates as a normal digital camera, the Infrared filter remains in front of the CCD at all times. However, Hologram AF (laser) may be used in low light circumstances if set to Auto in the Setup menu.

Normal-focal-length lens. A lens that provides about the same angle of view of a scene as the human eye and that does not seem to magnify or diminish the size of objects in the image unduly.

normal lens:
A lens that accommodates an image of approximately the same angle of view and the same proportion as that of which the human eye is capable.

Normal Lens
A lens that, for a specific camera Aperture, produces an Angle of View approximating that of the human eye, or about 25 degrees. See: Angle of View and Perspective.

Normal Edit
A normal lens has an angle of view that approximates how the human eye sees a scene. A lens is considered normal when its focal length is approximately equal to the diagonal of the film format.

A normal lens has approximately the same angle of view as your eyes. The circle in the diagram above is the actual coverage. Because the lens is round, the area of coverage is circular.

What's Normal?
When analysing the results remember that the quality of the image from a good $100 50mm f1.8 lens stopped down to f5.6 is probably at least as good if not better then that of a $600 400mm f5.6 lens used at f5.6.

Normally, each pixel in the image is based on the measurement in one pixel location. For instance, a 5 megapixel image is based on 5 million pixel measurements, give and take the use of some pixels surrounding the effective area.

Normally in product development, a continual process of prototyping and evaluation confirms function, performance and operation. Problems are fixed, improving reliability and bringing the prototype closer to final product specifications.

Normally, one would not use the phrase color balance to describe the adjustments needed to account for differences between the sensors and the human eye, or the details of the display primaries.

Normally the term macrophotography refers to images in which the subject is presented at a ratio greater than 1 to 1, so bigger than lifesize. It could be compared to looking at a subject through a magnifying glass.

Normal lens
Describes a lens with a focal length approximately equal to the diagonal of the film format with which it is being used. Commonly, the 50mm lens is considered "normal" in 35mm photography and the 80mm lens in medium format photography.

Normal light behaves like a wave, but vibrates in all directions. But some light - such as blue skies or reflections from non-metallic objects - is polarised, so that the waves all vibrate on the same plane.

A normal telephoto lens will let you take nice photographs of tame birds that are in close proximity to your camera setup. For example I recently took a wonderful photograph of an Australian Kookaburra that was sitting on my backyard clothes line.

A normal portrait photo will exclude any background detail. This can be achieved by using set backdrops or wide aperture settings to create a shallow depth of field. It should also be noted that in a standard portrait the subject must fill the frame.

In a normal lens where aberration doesn't occur, the lens directs light of different wavelengths to specific areas of the film, depending on the particular wavelength. This process results in a balanced, clear and sharp image on the resulting photo.

So the normal exposure sequence is to pick up an unexposed holder, put it in the camera, pull the darkslide, make the exposure, and the reinsert the darkslide with the black side showing.

These are normally only found on the high-end cameras. They enable the lens to be changed according to the needs of the subject. Not only is the camera more expensive, but there is also the extra cost of the additional lenses to consider.
