Opacity
Techniques Glossary Opacity
The density of a material such as a film or filter. In digital terms, opacity can be adjusted to make it look less prominent or allow a lower layer to show through.

Step 3 of adding a texture to your photo is to adjust the opacity of the texture. To adjust the opacity make sure the texture layer is highlighted on the layer menu (right side of illustration above).

Opacity
Used to specify how transparent a layer should be, either on its own or in regard to other layers.

OPACITY - (1) State or quality of being opaque. (2) The degree to which a substance is or may be opaque. (3) The proportion of the light that is absorbed by the emulsion on any given area of the negative.

opacity
a state where a printed film or a substrate does not permit the passage of light; the state of being opaque.

opacity:
The amount of transparency when combining a fill color, painted color, floating selection, pattern, or layer with another layer or background.

Opacity
The degree to which an object blocks light. Technically, opacity is expressed as a ratio of the incident light to the transmitted light.

Layer opacity. The opacity or transparency of each image layer in a digital photograph can be changed independently. Depending on the level of opacity, the parts of the layer beneath will become visible.

Opacity:
The light stopping power of a a material. The greater the opacity of a substance, the more light its stops.

The opacity is the amount of shading. If you select a setting of, lets say 90%, the shading around the window will turn to dark grey.

On a low opacity of about 20, I start clicking-I try to be careful with the shadow areas as I don't want to take them away while still toning down the shiny highlights.

Set the Opacity slider to 50% for a more subtle tone.
You can also experiment with the Overlay, Soft Light and Hard Light blending modes for different effects. All of these will increase the image's contrast.

Alter the opacity
In order to achieve a soft-focus effect rather than making it look out-of-focus, you'll need to bring the extra layer into play. In the Layers window, change the Opacity to around 30%.

fill, lowered the opacity of this floating layer, and then used a layer mask to eliminate the palm fronds.

The formula for opacity is given as follows: O = Amount of incident light Amount of transmitted light You can see that opacity is the transmission formula inverted.

16 Because your colour fill is on a layer, you may adjust the opacity to dial back the colour that you desire.
17 In addition, you may add a curves or levels adjustment to achieve the desired contrast.

In the gradient tool's properties bar set mode for 'normal' and 'opacity' between 20 and 40%. You'll need to experiment with this parameter. Make sure the 'transparency' and 'dither' boxes are checked.

Opacity is determined by the thickness of the paper and the materials used to make it. High opacity prevents a print that is on one side of a sheet of paper from showing through to the other side.

The opacity of the film is increasing on the y-axis. Note that there is a limit to "how opaque" this film can get.

Go to your layers windows and adjust the opacity of your top layer. As you turn the opacity down, you can fade the adjustments (0% makes the layer invisible and lets you see the original image). Select a opacity that you like.

Go to Opacity and change the density of the layer (Figure 6). In recent versions of Photoshop, you only have to click on the word Opacity and drag your cursor left or right to change opacity.

Other additions: The Spot Removal tool now has an opacity slider to soften its effect. You also have access to post-crop vignetting. You can use a vignette slider to darken the edges and the effect will adjust to changes in the crop.

Any material with varying degrees of opacity may be used, as preferred, to cover and/or obscure the desired area for burning or dodging. One may use a transparency with text, designs, patterns, etc.

With a small soft-edged brush at 70% Opacity, Foreground/Background set to Black/White, paint away sharp edges visible on the flipped sky layers mask. Leave the reflection on the sand and sea only.

In the Tool Options palette, set the size of the brush to about 45 pixels and make the Opacity pretty low, about 30 percent. The opacity should be set low so that we can still see the underlying texture of the wall in the resulting photo.

Another type of early meter, the extinction meter, depended on eyesight: the user looks through the meter at a row of numbers, each behind a celluloid window of different opacity, ...

Note that using "Normal" mixing mode gives a heavier "wetter" look to the soft focus. You'll need to back off on the opacity (10-30%). This can be great for softening up skin. Sort of a "digital makeup".

If incremental mode is not set, brush strokes are drawn on a canvas buffer, which is then combined with the active layer. The maximum effect of a brush is then determined by the opacity, ...

Remember that Talbot was printing through the relative opacity and blurriness of a paper negative. With St. Victor's discovery/invention, the stage was set for full, crystal clarity; something that the world in coming years would demand.

Your image will probably look quite gaudy now, but don't worry about that. Go ahead and Apply the Curve and then use the Opacity slider to control the effect.

I sampled some of the reds and yellows using the eyedropper tool to match the tonality and then used the paintbrush tool at 20% opacity to help remove the shine.
