Out-of-focus

Photography OTFOutput resolution

-Out-of-focus highlights caused by a mirror lens. mirror lens element at the center of the front glass plate. In turn, the mirror lens reflects the light back through a hole in the concave mirror to a focus on the film.

Out-of-focus
Refers to an image created when the rays of light passing through a lens fall upon a plane in front of or beyond the point at which they converge to form a sharp image. Out-of-focus images appear blurred or fuzzy.

Hide out-of-focus information in the layer on top and reveal in-focus information in the layer below. Target the top layer. Add a layer mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All or Hide All).

Locate Out-Of-Focus Areas
Another trick to achieve the selective focus technique is to search for an element that can be strongly out of focus.

Bokeh isn't the out-of-focus (OOF) area of a photograph (beginners today have incorrectly classified it that way). Bokeh is actually the subjective "quality" of the OOF area, not the OOF area itself.

The nature of the out-of-focus blur that an aperture produces is called bokeh, a term coined by a magazine editor sick of hearing people mispronounce the Japanese word 'boke' (meaning blur) to rhyme with smoke.

bokeh is how a lens draws unsharp/out-of-focus image areas
bounce flash - reflecting a flash from a wall or ceiling (or perhaps a special flash diffusing reflector, such as a brolly) to soften the harsh shadows and contrast produced by direct flash.

Backscatter is the insidious bits of out-of-focus particles that are illuminated by the strobe.

Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light. Bokeh comes from the Japanese word 'boke', which means fuzzy. In photography, bokeh defines the quality of the blurred lights presented in a photo.

In out-of-focus areas, each point of light becomes a disc. Depending how a lens is corrected for spherical aberration, the disc may be uniformly illuminated, brighter near the edge, or brighter near the center.

To counteract the out-of-focus picture due to an unsteady hand, search for something to steady your camera, e.g. lean against a pillar, and press the camera firmly to your body.

Obviously an in-focus image will be sharper (smaller) than an out-of-focus image. The second is diffraction. Diffraction is the name given to the observation that when light squeezes through a small opening it tends to spread out.

You can change the shape of those out-of-focus highlights Try cutting some odd-shaped hole in a piece of cardboard that will fit into a filter holder such as a Cokin type. The hole can be fairly large.

In Image 3, the background is limited to subtle out-of-focus tones, color and very few shapes.

Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light. Differing amounts of spherical aberration alter how lenses render out-of-focus points of light, and thus their bokeh.

and out-of-focus areas (try focusing different parts of the image separately).
4.Increase the threshold level of Unsharp Mask to between 3 and
10 to reduce the effect of sharpening on noise.
5.

It refers to how out-of-focus parts of a photo look. Different lenses produce different-looking out-of-focus backgrounds, depending on things like the number and shape of their aperture blades.

Japanese word meaning "fuzzy" and referring to the out-of-focus (OOF) portions of a picture. A lens is said to have "good boke" if the OOF is pleasant and does not detract from the main subject.

than film camera, an important tip is to half-depress the shutter button until the camera has had time to lock the focus, and then completely press the button to take the actual shot - this can often make the difference between blurry, out-of-focus ...

Bokeh or boke is a Japanese term that describes the quality of the out-of-focus areas of an image. It should not be confused with the simple amount of blur in an image.

Bokeh describes the quality of out-of-focus background in an image. High quality bokeh is a much sought after characteristic. Learn what effects bokeh, as well as what it is and what it is not.

And finally, the out-of-focus flowers throughout the image mirror the shape and brightness of the main focal point. This creates a harmonious consistency and distribution of the shapes throughout the image.

But just as often as you see heart warming baby photos, you also see out-of-focus shots of starring kids with forced smiles on their faces. What's the trick?

Even a slightly out-of-focus image will appear split, enabling you to adjust for accurate focus. Split Lighting Split Lighting is a portrait lighting technique in which only half of the face is illuminated.

In order to achieve a soft-focus effect rather than making it look out-of-focus, you'll need to bring the extra layer into play. In the Layers window, change the Opacity to around 30%.

A small number of prisms located on the focusing screens. The microprisms break down out-of-focus images into small segments and appears fuzzy, allowing focusing on subjects without distinct lines.

An image that is in focus appears sharp and clear; an out-of-focus image has a broken-up, shimmery appearance.

An editing tool which averages pixels with their neighbors to reduces contrast and simulate an out-of-focus image.
Soft focus:
The definition of a diffused image. This can be achieved at the camera or enlarging stage.

Minute glass or plastic structure of multiple prisms set in a viewfinder screen to act as a focusing aid. Breaks up an out-of-focus subject into a shimmer but images a focused subject clearly.

You can't, however, correct an out-of-focus photograph. Since it is so easy to have your photo slightly out of focus or focused on the wrong point, ...

The finishing crop was done to make use of the two slightly out-of-focus trees as goalposts that allow the viewer to see that the scene extends beyond them, but also keeping the focus within their frames. They balance each other out nicely.

Smoothing
Averaging pixels with their neighbors. It reduces contrast and stimulates an out-of-focus image.
Snapshot
An informal photograph, especially one taken quickly by a simple, hand-held camera.

Shallow depth of field has its own benefits, so you don't necessarily have to think of it as a problem. An out-of-focus foreground or background can help isolate a subject, making it stand out sharply.

Formal portraits are mainly in a controlled situation, frequently with muted or out-of-focus backgrounds, so the subject is the only point of interest.

This picture of the girl with the sea gulls (above right) is an example of one that could benefit from a little more simplification. We find those two out-of-focus figures sitting at the water's edge are distracting.

(if a little soft), well exposed, have natural color (quite subtle compared to many consumer cameras) and focus is very reliable, though we did find it struggled a bit at the long end of the zoom, very occasionally taking a completely out-of-focus ...

Infinity Lock - A feature on some cameras that sets the auto focus point at "infinity" in order to prevent out-of-focus pictures.

For "Poppies Macro," I actually shot "through" some nearby flowers, so the out-of-focus splash of color in front would help frame the poppy in back. The foreground poppies were so close, in fact, that they almost touched the front of my lens.

unsharp
a negative, positive, or highlight mask made photographically that has less definition than the maximum; an out-of-focus image made to soften abrupt gradations.

This is a wonderful way to shoot outdoor portraits, such as your kid in a field of tulips. Your kid’s face will come out sharp and the field of tulips will be out-of-focus. You can further your knowledge in this topic by reading about aperture.

Dark foregrounds help hold the eye within the Frame and increase the illusion of Depth. Bright foreground objects, especially out-of-focus or moving ones, can be distracting. Tip: Back or Side-Light the foreground using little or no Fill.

Buy some flowers and set up inside your home to practice as you will have better control than outside. You can pre-position the background (out-of-focus) areas better.

lets you control depth of field, which lets you determine the extent to which your background will be in focus. Sometimes you want to record landscapes with vast depths; other times you want to isolate your subject against a clean out-of-focus ...

In defocus detection, how accurately the focal deviation can be detected in an out-of-focus condition is critical.

Use selective focus to frame her with out-of-focus flowers at the top and bottom of the frame. Watch the background for distractions. Don't be afraid to go through an entire roll of film or take a substantial series of digital photographs.

Internally, however, it has a 7-blade aperture diaphragm, which in theory offers slightly better bokeh, or out-of-focus blurring. Marked with a striped gold line since it's a USM lens, and has a metal lens mount. Discontinued.
