Three way Pan Tilt heads
A three way Pan Tilt head gives independant control of movement over each of the three axes (pan, forward-backwards, left-right), using an independant locking mechanism. It gives you precise control.
In the past I have used a pan tilt head at the zoo in a manner similar to using a fluid head. If you level your tripod and side to side tilt axis, you can use a pan/tilt head much like a video fluid head.

I used a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod with an 804RC2 three-way pan tilt head in conjunction with a Canon RS-80 remote switch to obtain the crisp image. Both the tripod legs and head have built-in spirit levels.
This column ends at a flat platform through which projects a threaded screw. It's on this platform that you mount the next part—a tripod head. There are two basic kinds of heads— the traditional 3-way pan tilt head and the ball head.
