Panoramic mode
A mode on many compact cameras and some SLRs that masks the film so that a narrow strip is recorded. The result is then printed on elongated paper to give an impressive 10x4in widescreen style photo.

Panoramic Mode
Some digital cameras have a "Panoramic Mode" that helps you create panoramas by showing you previous images in the LCD so you can line up your subsequent photos.

panoramic mode
lets you line up several consecutive shots to "stitch' together when you edit your photos.
pixel
(Picture Element) A digital image is made up of tiny packets of electronic information that are called pixels.

Panoramic mode. A digital camera mode that uses just the center band on the image sensor to capture an image that is much wider than it is tall.

Panoramic modes have become common in compact cameras in recent years, and Fuji has taken note with its own 'motion panorama' mode which provides the user with a specific alignment point for each photo being taken in the panorama.

The DSC-HX1 has a panoramic mode that looks trick in a demo, but only encourages careless snapshooting for bus-tour tourists.

In fact, a typical APS camera in its panoramic mode, where its zoom lens is at its shortest focal length of around 24 mm, has a field of view of only 65°, which many photographers would only classify as wide angle, not panoramic.

This may sound absurd but it is in fact how most 35mm "panoramic mode" cameras operate. They use the same lens as in normal mode and mask off the top and bottom of the frame.

Since alignment is so important some cameras have a panoramic mode that displays guide lines or part of the previous image in the series so you can accurately align and overlap the next photo.
