Pantograph

pantograph
a device used to reduce or enlarge images proportionately.

Pantograph
A scissors-like mechanism used for raising and lowering studio lights. Other devices can also perform the same function, sometimes better.

The coolest part of any rail system is the pantograph light support. These pull down from the ceiling and are cleverly counterbalanced so that they just stay wherever you leave them.

The camera objective is sometimes attached to a pantograph-like mechanism, in which the lid usually is a component. The objective extends to give correct focus when unfolded. A cloth or leather bellows keeps the light out.
