Parallel port. A port on the computer that is faster than a serial port but slower than SCSI, USB, or IEEE 1394 ports. Often used by printers and flash card readers.

Parallel Port (a.k.a. IEEE1286)
A computer interface capable of transferring more than one bit of data simultaneously. Almost all Windows Based personal computers come with at least one parallel port.

Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP)
Evaluative or Matrix Light Metering
Typically, you'll only find this metering mode on DSLR cameras that include a number of metering choices. Evaluative metering is the most sophisticated technology.

EPP - Enhanced Parallel Port - the newer hi-speed, bidirectional printer port on modern computers. Some older digicams and scanners use the EPP port to transfer data.

SCSI port - Small Computer System Interface A port that's faster than the serial and parallel ports, harder to configure than the newer USB port. Mostly used for fast disk connections.

A port that's faster than the serial and parallel ports but slower and harder to configure than the newer USB port. Also know as the Small Computer System Interface.
SD Card: ...

Designed to replace serial and parallel port connections. Data transfer rate is slow at only 12Mbits/sec. Plug and Play design. Devices can be connected and disconnected without re-starting the computer.

USB is expected to completely replace serial and parallel ports. In addition, USB is particularly well suited for high-speed Plug-and-Play downloading of images from your digital camera straight to your PC.

IEEE-1284. High-speed, bidirectional parallel port specification used on Windows PC's, used mostly for printers.

If you have existing serial or parallel port devices--possibly your tablet or printer--you'll want to make sure you get a motherboard that has enough of those ports as well. Same for your mouse and keyboard.

Card reader
Common term used for a device that can read the information from a 'Memory card'. This device may be connected to the computer via the USB, serial, parallel ports or via a PCMCIA ...

In the nineties, I used 80 MB "magneto-optical" disks (2). My magneto-optical drive only had drivers up to Windows 98, so I recently migrated these onto my hard disk via an older computer which still had a parallel port and Windows 98.

used when talking about auto focus or auto exposure systems that work through the camera's lens.
USB
Universal Serial Bus - High speed data port on digicams and newer Pentium and iMac computers. It is many times faster than serial or parallel ports.
