I get almost the same detail as a Photo CD scan at 1536 x 1024. I think the difference is mostly due to Kodak using more powerful software. Red, green and blue images are not completely in register, the edges differ by one pixel in some places.

For Photo CD's I have been using Wal-Mart's service. I have been very pleased with the results . Evidently the independent lab that they use here in Southern California (lab is in Pico Rivera) has good dust control.
This photo CD image was opened with Adobe Photoshop using their Kodak Photo CD conversion program. It was then sized and saved to JPG using Adobe's "best" level of image quality for compression. It is using a whopping 40k for the image file.
