Spectrophotometer

On-Easel Analyzers An on-easel color analyzer (fig. 12-5) is an electronic photometer used to measure the illumination and three color primaries of light on the baseboard of the enlarger.
To profile a display, you attach a color measuring device called a spectrophotometer or colorimeter to the display screen. Profiling software then flashes a number of known colors on the display while the device reads each colors' values.
The cadillac of monitor profiling solutions use a spectrophotometer to measure not just red, green and blue from the monitor, but actually record the distribution of light emitted over the entire visible spectrum.
I don't see conversion ability in the photometer, however one foot-Lambert (fL) is 3.426 Candelas per meter squared (Cd/m^2) if you need to convert. The inverse is 0.2919.

Photographers looking for a single solution for monitor calibration and print profiling should take a serious look at the ColorMunki Photo, a spectrophotometer that does double duty.
The filters were measured using a calibrated UV/visible spectrophotometer which I had access to at the time of the tests.
