Photomicrography
Techniques Glossary Photomicrography
Photographs taken using the camera attached to a microscope.

Photomicrography
Sometimes called Microphotography. The technique of taking extreme close-up photos through the lens of a microscope, it is used to achieve magnifications greater than those obtainable using a Macro lens.

Photomicrography
The process of taking photographs of minute objects using a camera and a microscope; not to be confused with "microphotography," the process of making minute photographs of large objects.

PHOTOMICROGRAPH - A photograph taken through a microscope.
PHOTO SLAVE - Also called a "slave unit.

photomicrography
the process of photographing minute objects magnified through a microscope.
photo opaque
refer to opaque.

[edit] Photomicrograph
A light micrograph is a micrograph prepared using a light microscope, a process referred to as photomicroscopy.

Photomicrograph of a cross-section of a multilayer film filter (3500x)
Optical thinfilm filters utilize the interference effects occuring in thin, transparent layers, only about as thick as the wavelength of light.

Photomicrography - system of producing larger than life photographs by attaching a camera to a microscope.
Photon - particle of light energy. It is the smallest quantity of radiant energy that can be transmitted between two systems.

-Scanning electron microscope - device used in photomicrography.
-Schumann plate - plate coated with an emulsion with so little gelatin content that the silver halide grains protrude above its surface.

A book on photomicrography, the older the better, will give you some useful hints about lighting. Older books, though, do not cover fiber-optic illumination, which is very helpful when working with tiny subjects.

The above subject at 2X (2:1 or two times life size) would be 1.5 inch by 1/2 inch, or just a bit to long to entirely fit on a 35mm film frame. Photography through a microscope is usually called photomicrography.
