Digital SLRs may have the upper hand when it comes to shooting macro, but that doesn't mean us point-and-shoot owners have to give up.
A good point and shoot camera will have a longest shutter speed of at least 1 second. You can probably only hold the camera steady for 1/30th of a second. Your subjects may not hold still for a full second either.
The modern point and shoot is quite remarkable in its capabilities in taking night photos. Try some night photography, for a change of pace, and you will be quite pleased at the results.

Of course there are certain benefits and limitations with point and shoot cameras.
The benefits are of course ease of use, and their lightweight compact nature; heck some of them are smaller than the light meter I carry.

The first question that needs to be answered is what are your needs? Are you a professional photographer trying to make a living from your art, or are you a weekend photographer looking to capture life's precious moment?
Point and shoot cameras are fully automatic cameras intended to be used without any concern for settings. The concept of point-and-shoot applies to both film and digital cameras.

Point and shoot are the compact cameras that have been very popular since the start of the twenty first century. It's perfect to bring along any time and any day.

In the point and shoot arena, more is still considered better, so entry level cameras moved from 2MP to 3MP and then 4MP, and high-end point and shoots up to over 5MP.
