OK, so you followed my advice and switched to Night Portrait mode, but the picture came out screwy.

Portrait mode sets the camera to have a fuzzy background. Landscape sets the digital camera to be able to get sharp focus in the distance.
I’ve found that the best way to capture a dive is to use the camera in a vertical orientation (portrait mode) rather than horizontal mode.
Images in portrait mode need one more step to rotate the images. The easiest way to handle this is to create a second action for portrait shots.

Ability of a lens to focus close enough to reproduce objects at an image ratio of 1:1.
This setting works the opposite of portrait mode. Your camera selects a larger f-stop number for a smaller aperture, or lens opening, which results in a large depth of field, so the entire contents of your digital photo to appear in focus.
Sometimes you'll turn the camera sideways to shoot in "Portrait mode" to fit your subject in the frame. Photoshop lets you rotate your image 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise.
Don't get too hung up on the idea of people; Portrait mode can be used for pets, zoo animals or furniture. It's all about a single main subject at a moderate distance away and a background you want out of focus.

Landscape mode typically has an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9 (the aspect ration of high definition video) and is most appropriate for landscape, group or candid photography. Is the opposite of Portrait Mode.
a shutter speed as possible for a given exposure - ideally 1/250 seconds or faster. In addition to using a low f-stop, the fast shutter speed is usually achieved by increasing the ISO speed more than would otherwise be acceptable in portrait mode.
