A film (transparancy) that, when viewed, is like the original in tone and colour, unlike a negative film where tones appear reversed.

Positive. (Slide/Reversal)
Positive film, as you would expect, is the opposite of negative film. After processing the film you will have a set of positive images.

Positive:
An image emulating an original scene, made photographically on paper or film, usually from a negative.

Positive film-A positive image (such as color slides) is created when this type of film is used. Color transparencies are positive films.

Positive The opposite of a negative, an image with the same tonal relationships as those in the original scenes-for example, a finished print or a slide.

Positive.

A positive image is a normal image. A negative image is a tonal inversion of a positive image, in which light areas appear dark and vice versa.

Direct positive print
Made from a transparency without an internegative on a direct positive colour paper. A high contrast positive image slide made only from camera ready originals with no negative required.

Direct positive transparencies can be made by slight modification of the preceeding procedure. Use T- Max 100 in an exposure index range of 1600- 3200.

A positive transparency designed to be viewed when lit from behind. Used frequently to describe a 'positive' camera film.

Slide Film Slide film actually creates a positive image (rather than a negative). This is the film used to create slides for projection. Slide film requires processing known as E6.

Color slides or transparencies, give a positive image. They produce more brilliant colors and give better sharpness than print films. Unlike print films, slides require a loupe or a projector for better viewing.

But it is also possible to view things more positively. Nikon has confirmed that they will be releasing a firmware update for the D2x by this fall that will add to it many of the usability and performance enhancements being introduced with the D2Xs.

The mechanical construction is quite complicated (=expensive) and there're a couple of positive and negative side effects. The most positive effect is the "increased" quality at closer focus distances.
