Prism
Glass block which bends light to varying degrees, depending on wavelength, so separating it into its component colours. Also sometimes the given name to pentaprism finder.

Prism
Triangular-shaped glass or other transparent material. When light is passed through a prism, its wavelengths refracts into a rainbow of colours.

MICROPRISM COLLAR - Focusing aid in a viewfinder screen composed of small glass or plastic multiple prisms. An image that is in focus appears sharp and clear; an out-of-focus image has a broken-up, shimmery appearance.

Pentaprism
The prism that sits on the top of most SLRs. The pentaprism transmits the light reflected upward by the camera's mirror into the camera's eyepiece.

-Microprism collar is a grid type ring found in the center of a camera focusing screen, usually surrounding a split image screen.
-Millimicron (mµ) is one thousandth part of a micron.

So which camera is better depends, as always, on your needs. The consumer series cameras are inexpensive lightweight cameras and an excellent value for beginners and people on a budget.

If another prism is brought close to the original prism immediately before the evanescent light clinging to surface B begins to dissipate, it recovers and is transformed into normal propagating light which permeates the upper prism (Fig. 2).

They have it all - prismatic color, a stormy sky lit by the sun, early morning or late afternoon light, and if you believe in folk tales, maybe a pot of gold. They’re adrenaline pumping phenomena that rev up many photographers’ juices.

die-cut transfer, prisma
a reflectable illuminized plastic heat transfer that shimmers like a rainbow and may be applied to both cotton and cotton blends.

If we "take a spectrum" of a star we analyze its light according to wavelength or frequency by, say, passing the light through a prism. A "spectral line" refers to emission or absorption at a particular wavelength of light.

It has three main elements: a hinged mirror, a matte focusing screen, and a five-sided glass prism called a pentaprism The mirror, in the viewing position, is below the viewing screen and behind the lens.

A mirror bounces light coming through the lens into a prism that directs it out of the viewfinder. When you take a picture, the mirror swings up and the shutter opens to let light hit the image sensor and create the image.

Usually rest around the pentaprism of the camera (but some were designed around the film rewind knob). It has an electrical contact which mated with a contact in the mounting foot of the flash unit.

Penta prism: Five sided prism used to give correct viewing of the image and reflect it on to the focusing screen.
Perspective: System of representing three dimensional objects on a two dimensional surface to give realistic impression of depth.

In 1665, Sir Isaac Newton was able to show, by using a double prism experiment, that ordinary, visible light is actually composed of seven colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet).

The single-lens reflex is distinguished by a mirror and prism system which allows viewing directly through the lens. When the shutter is released, the mirror flips up, out of the light path, and returns when the shutter closes.

The view is looking in and up towards the prism, with the screen halfway removed so you can see how things go together. When you open your own camera, the screen will be held in the screen frame and latched in the up position.

The best camera for housing is one whose standard prism can be removed and replaced with a larger prism designed to allow the whole image to be viewed from further back.

The DSLR is the great grandchild of the traditional single-lens-reflex camera, named so because the image that the lens sees is reflected by a mirror and prism system in the viewfinder.

Usually, the visible spectrum is hidden unless refracted by prism or a rainbow (simply many thousands of water droplets acting as prisms).

There's a mirror in front of the sensor in your Canon D-SLR, which angles the light into a prism so you see the same scene through the viewfinder that your camera records.

The camera has a slanted mirror positioned between the shutter and the lens, with a piece of translucent glass and a prism positioned above it.

Unfortunately, dust and other dirt gremlins also accumulate inside the finder system, often when you change lenses, focusing screens, or prisms.

In traditional film cameras, and now replicated in digital SLRs, there is a synch plug (in the old days) or a hot shoe (more common today) that sits atop the viewing prism.

Single lens reflex-A type of camera that uses a prism and mirror system allowing viewing of the subject through the taking lens of the camera.

Normally, the light from the lens is immediately reflected upward, through a prism, and then out the viewfinder for the photographer to see.

The science gets quite complicated but basically the stresses in transparent plastic diffract white light into various parts of the spectrum, rather like a prism, only more randomly so.

Originally designed as a program called Prism, Silva added so many features that it became the showcase program for the system.

A camera that utilizes a prism and mirror system to project the image seen by the lens onto a focusing screen located below the prism housing. The image the user sees in the viewfinder is identical to the image being recorded.

The image as the lens sees it, is relayed through a prism or mirror system directly up to a focus screen which can be seen through the viewfinder.

Today, with the availability of high resolution display screens, the use of a mirror, pentaprism/pentamirror and viewfinder is obsolete.

in the case of a coupled rangefinder, when the lens is correctly focused. SLR cameras may have a prismatic split-image system in their viewing screen. Works on the same principle as a microprism, and is restricted to apertures of f5.6 or greater.

Sensors located in either the prism, the mirror or on the film plane which record the amount of electronic flash coming into the camera at the time of exposure. These sensors will automatically adjust the output of the flash.

Helps to avoid stray light coming into the pentaprism; comfortable for eyeglass wearers and avoids eyeglasses scratching; but more important, by pressing it against your eye you provide one extra point of contact, therefore additional support.

38. Range finder camera: A camera that uses a system of prisms and mirrors to bring an image into focus, even though the viewfinder (unlike an SLR) is separate from the lens. Also sometimes known as a lens-shutter or "point and shoot" camera.

SLR - Stands for 'Single-Lens Reflex'. A mirror or prism reflects the light coming in through the lens to the viewfinder, so when you look through it you see exactly what the camera does.

In 1666 sir Isaac Newton discovered that sunlight is a mixture of colors by noticing that when a ray of light passes through a prism it is dispersed into its seven constituent colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

SLRs often have prism that corrects the upside-down and reversed image to match our natural vision, but this does not an SLR make. Some common SLR camera manufacturers: Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad, Pentax, and Minolta.

This means that if you put the light from any of these sources through a prism to create a rainbow there are not black areas where the light drops out. Many other man made lights have this problem.

Light consists of various colors, as you can see when light passes through a prism. The Kelvin scale measures the light in terms of whether it trends toward the orange or blue.

The effect is similar as going through a prism. It will be visible in areas of abrupt contrast change (something in front of a very bright sky). You need to zoom into the problem area and use these sliders if you intend to fix that.

This screen is viewed through the viewfinder and a glass pentaprism which turns the image the correct way up. Other camera functions such as light metering and flash control also operate through the camera lens.

Fold the cardboard into fourths, making a rectangular prism and folding the cardboard on the dots. The cardboard should now measure into four 2 x 12 inch sections.
