Rack and pinion focusing - mechanical focusing system used on copying or monorail cameras. A pinion engages a rack on a slide. Focusing is achieved by turning a knob or wheel, which moves the lens or image panel.

 


The "Reisekamera" characteristics of this variant are a similar portability, rack and pinion focusing aid, and similar image formats and extendibility of bellows.

  The smaller sizes carried a rack and pinion focusing movement, and you had to pay extra for an iris diaphragm instead of Waterhouse stops.  Ross also made lenses of this type in f3.5 aperture.  ...
