Resample Images to Web-Safe Standards
With the wide spread evolution of Verizon FiOS we have seen Internet greatly speeds increase over the past year.

Resample
To change the resolution of an image through interpolation. Resampling downwards discards information and resampling upwards creates new information based on adjacent pixels.
(see Image resolution) ...

Resample - Changing the pixel dimensions of a bitmap image. When you decrease the number of pixels in the image, you are downsampling, which results in a loss of image data and a blurrier image.

Resample - Resampling an image changes its resolution through interpolation, making calculations using already known values.

Resample. To change the size or resolution of an image. Resampling down discards pixel information in an image; resampling up adds pixel information through interpolation. See also interpolation.

Resample
To change the resolution of an image.
Resolution: Refers to the sharpness and clarity of an image. The term is most often used to describe monitors, printers, and bit-mapped graphic images.

When you check Resample Image, the first thing you will notice is that the Pixel Dimensions boxes at the top of the dialog become editable.

When an image is resampled to make it larger, extra pixels are added and the color of each new pixel is determined by the colors of its neighbours.
When an image is resampled to make it smaller, some pixels are deleted.

I'll need to resample the image down to a smaller resolution in order to achieve this size print when I assign 300 ppi as the document's printing resolution. I'll also need to digitally crop the image from the 35mm film's 8X12 native ratio to 8X10.

Genuine Fractals is a lot better than a Photoshop resample for lines, although when used for rasterized text (not shown here) it really does not work anywhere near as well as it could.

Sony NEX-5N Sony NEX-5N, resampled to 24MP
These 100% crops show the A77 to be clearly noisier than either of the other two cameras, but between the NEX-7 and NEX-5N there's really not a lot to choose.

At the Image Size menu, make sure that the "resample" check box at the bottom of the menu is selected. Then enter the desired resolution and width/height. For printing an image, a resolution of 300 pixels/inch or more is desirable.

I figure that I want print resolution at about 300 pixels per inch in PS, and therefore, unless I resample up, I am restricted in the size of photo by the number of my original pixels.

Turn off the Resample option and then change the DPI to 300.
It is just a number, that has nothing to do with resolution:
e.g.:
An image of 1200 pixels wide will be 4 inches at 300 dpi or 8 inches at 150 dpi.

Image size again, untick the Constrain proportions box (you'll have to tick the Resample Image box first if you're using Elements - choose the Bicubic Smoother option) and change first the image resolution and then the pixel dimensions to match your ...

In the Image Size box that appears, ensure that the Resample Image box is checked.
Change the document size unit to Percent.
In the Document Size section of the, enter 110 for the width of the document.

Scale Styles: Check the box.
Constrain Proportions: Check the box.
Resample Image: Check the box and select Bicubic.
Resolution: 300.
Width: 10.5 (the rest of the Pixel Dimensions and Document Size settings will automatically adjust).

this format is used for RGB animation or movie files created by Adobe Premiere®. If you resize, resample, remove alpha channels, or change the color mode or file format of a Filmstrip file in Photoshop, ...

Resample Increase or decrease of the number of pixels in one or both axes of an image using a method that correlates adjacent pixel values to create a smooth pixel-to-pixel brightness transition.

Unlike resampling here the image size is changed without modifying the resolution. For example if you resized a 10x8in 72dpi photo to 4x6in the dpi would be increased, whereas if you resample youd keep the same dpi.

But, in this case, you want to use those same images for your website. So then you open your "master" in an image editor, such as Photoshop Elements, make a copy of it (Save As), then resample down that copy so it is a small, web-servable file.

Actually, Nikon even came out with different RAW processing software a few months later that resampled my D1X files so they were bigger and better than when first captured. I have been a fan of RAW capture ever since.
