Sepia Toning Using Hue/Saturation
This is the quickest and easiest toning technique there is. You can tone your photo virtually any colour that you like in just a few seconds.
Sepia toning is a great tool for photographers. It can enhance the beauty of period architecture photos and rustic natural panoramas, for example.
Sepia toning preserves pictures because of a chemical process that turns any silver in the developing photograph into a sulfide. This sulfide is more resistant to aging than silver.
Along with hand-tinting and sepia toning, spot color images are a wonderful way to bring a sense of nostalgia to your images. They are also great for expressing your creative side with your images.
Eventually, I developed one that has the right amount of monochrome mix and sepia toning that I like.
Ammonium sulfide - pungent but essential chemical in sulfide or sepia toning.
Ammonium thiosulfate - highly active fixing agent used in rapid fixing solutions which works by converting unused silver halides to soluble complexes.
-Sulfide toning - conversion of a black metallic silver image into a brown dye image. Usually known as sepia toning.
-Sulfuric acid - high corrosive chemical used in reducers.
I use the highlight slider to adjust the lighter colors more toward yellow to replicate the chemical results of bleaching and redeveloping in actual sepia toning in the darkroom (Figure 21).

Together with some dirt on the scanners glass plate (caused by dried moisture) and sepia toning it resulted in the scan that closely resembled old glass negatives, much better than any PS old-style looks.
It became the logo shot for Lena’s workshop, and most recently, her publisher selected it for the cover of her new book, Twenty-Five 5-Minute Power Scenes. For the cover, the publisher opted for a real tight crop and some sepia toning.
Adobe now provides sliders for red, yellow, green, cyan, blue and magenta to determine the color filtering. Tinted conversions can now be done easily as well via the additional hue and saturation options. Sepia toning has never been easier.
