shellac
an alcohol-soluble natural resin.
shingling
an allowance made during pastup or image assemby to compensate for creep.

Shellac - natural resin with a low melting point. It is mainly used on dry mounting tissue.
Shutter - mechanical system used to control the time that light is allowed to act on the sensitive emulsion.

I used orange shellac as a sealer and finish. It's got some color to it, and it adds a beautiful richness to the finish. There are other options, such as lacquer. You could use urethane, but please don't tell me if you do.

Lampblack was then applied by a machine in order to fill the clear spaces between the grains. After this, the plate was coated with shellac.

Dry mounting
