Shutter-priority mode

Shutter-priority mode lets you choose the shutter speed you need to freeze or deliberately blur camera or subject movement and the camera automatically sets the aperture to give you a good exposure.

 


Shutter-priority mode. An automatic exposure system in which the photographer sets the shutter speed and the camera selects the aperture (f-stop) for normal exposure.

Shutter-priority mode. An automatic exposure system in with you set the shutter speed and the camera selects the aperture (f-stop) for correct exposure.
Single-lens reflex. See SLR.

In shutter-priority mode you choose the shutter speed and the camera selects an appropriate corresponding aperture.

If precisely controlling motion in a picture is your objective, set your camera to the Shutter-Priority mode.

You can't bracket shots when you use program, aperture-priority, or shutter-priority modes by changing shutter speeds or aperture. The camera automatically adjust settings to give what it thinks is the correct exposure.

To make sure you freeze the action, shoot in shutter-priority mode and keep the shutter speed at least twice the focal length of the long end of the lens in use.

Set the camera to manual or shutter-priority mode. Select a slow shutter speed, at most 1/200th of a second, but ideally 1/60th or 1/30th of a second.

(It has a "sports" mode, but according to the manual that is for outdoor sports with plenty of light.) Basically, I think you need to learn to use shutter-priority mode (if your camera has it) to choose a fairly high shutter speed ...

ISOs mean more noise, though, so play with it until you reach a level of noise you find acceptable. If your camera has the ability to set ISO automatically, ignore the preceding two sentences and use it, and set your camera to shutter-priority mode ...
