3c: SHUTTERSPEED. Increase shutter speed - A LOT, less light will hit sensor but you will freeze any motion, and people may not be a "soft" as they would like to appear. this makes for very vibrant background colours of a sunset too sometimes.
Knowing how to deal with slower shutterspeeds will make or break your low-light shots. One recommendation is to get cameras with image stabilization.
I've found that any vibration created by the camera typically takes about 1 second to die down after the shutter is pressed, therefore if I'm using a shutterspeed shorter than that time I will need some sort of vibration dampening.
to put it simple: when you change the shutterspeed one stop upward, you should change the aperture or the ISO speed one stop downward - as long as you don't use flash.

The base EV of zero comes from an aperture of F/1, a shutterspeed of 1 second and an ISO of 100. High EVs are used in bright conditions where there is a danger of overexposure if the aperture is too large (low f-stops) and the shutterspeed too slow.
In aperture mode, the photographer sets the aperture and the camera sets the shutterspeed to compensate, giving a correctly exposed image, but that does not mean that the images remain identical no matter which aperture you select.
Just put the camera on Av (aperture priority), set the aperture, see what shutterspeed it gives you, make a single shot than put it on M(anual).
Automatic Program
Within a programm automat the diaphragm and the shutterspeed according to the lightconditions are automatically set. On most cameras indicated with the symbol "P".
