SLR (Single-lens reflex)
An SLR or single-lens reflex is really designed for the enthusiast photographer or the person who can put up with a larger camera in return for increased accuracy and greater versatility.

SLR vs Rangefinder

PREFACE
35mm cameras slowly evolved over the years transforming into a complex optical-electronic device.

SLR is an acronym for Single Lens Reflex. What does that stand for?
Single Lens - The camera uses one lens for both taking and viewing.

SLR cameras help you create extraordinary photographs, not just snapshots. The right SLR will grow with you as your picture-taking skills develop. Here's how to identify important features and buy smart.

SLR, which stands for single-lens reflex, refers to a type of camera that employs a rotating mirror (either a pentaprism or a pentamirror) that reflects the image that comes through the lens onto a focusing screen.

The SLR/c has the same single 'stick pack' Lithium-ion battery as the 14n and SLR/n. This slides into the bottom left edge of the camera and is held in place by a lever built into the battery. It provides 1800 mAh at 7.

The SLR is much larger and heavier than the point-and-shoot camera. If you are leaving the house to socialize and want a camera to keep in your pocket just in case an interesting photo presents itself, the SLR will seem cumbersome.

SLR
Acronym for Single Lens Reflex. Meaning a camera which allows the photographer to see through the taking lens of the camera, with the use of a mirror. (Also see TTL).

SLR cameras have the option of manual focus, so the photographer can focus on any part of the frame without the risk of a miss-focus by the autofocus system. There are usually focusing aids built into the camera to help the user focus.

SLR: Single Lens Reflex. This term designates a type of camera which incorporates a viewing system where the subject is seen through the lens. This image is reflected on a mirror and passes through a prism that restores the normal view.

SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex (whatever you see in the viewfinder is exactly what is captured in your picture).

SLR Camera Sensor
The diagram below illustrates the relative size of several standard sensor sizes on the market today. Most digital SLR's have either a 1.5X or 1.

SLR. A type of camera with one lens which is used both for viewing and taking the picture.
SmartMedia. A popular form of flash memory card.
Spot Metering. Autoexposure is based on a meter reading of a small circle in the center of the viewfinder.

SLR. See Single-lens reflex.
Soft. Describes an image that is blurred or out of focus. The opposite of sharp.

SLR: Single Lens Reflex camera, a type of camera design that permits the photographer to view, expose and focus on the subject through the taking lens instead of a separate viewfinder window.

SLR - Single Lens Reflex. A type of camera that allows you to see through the camera's lens as you look in the camera's viewfinder. Other camera functions, such as light metering and flash control, also operate through the camera's lens.

SLR. (Single Lens Reflex). This means the camera has a viewfinder that sees through the lens (TTL) by way of a 45°-angled mirror that flips up when the shutter fires and allows the light to strike the image sensor (or film).

SLR cameras usually employ pentaprisms - five-sided prisms - as part of the viewfinder optical system.

The SLR Camera.
This illustration shows a fairly standard traditional SLR camera with manual controls. The make and model are not important as most cameras of this design will have similar controls in similar places.

Non-SLR models. You would think that little LCD display on the back of the camera would take care of any complaint about the camera not being an SLR.

TTL/SLR (through the lens/single lens reflex)
These comprise a more complex optical system. The main advantages are:
The finder (as the name implies) shows exactly what the lens sees
Low power consumption (as non electronic) ...

Most SLR cameras have built in meters that measure light after it has passed through the lens during picture taking. This element enables exposure readings to be taken from the actual image to be recorded on film.

Single Lens Reflex (SLR)
This camera uses a mirror to allow the photographer to see through its single lens, which then moves to allow the lens to expose the film.

Single lens reflex (SLR) - stands for single lens reflex. It is a camera of 35mm or medium format in which a system of mirrors shows the user the image precisely as the lens renders it.

When shooting photographs with an SLR camera through a window or canopy, you will find it helpful to make a foam rubber "doughnut" about 2 or 3 inches thick.

The problem comes from the fact that the light that travels through an SLR must follow two different paths in order for the camera and photographer to perform their actions. First, the light must pass through the lens.
