A conical tube that fits over a studio light that gives you more control over the light beam and forms a small circular patch on the subject. Often used as a hair light on portrait photography.

Snoots sit over a light head and turn it into a very small light source. These are usually used for hair lights.

Snoots are front-of-the-light "tubes" that project a circle of light on a subject or background. They also reduce Spill. Tip: To turn the circle into an ellipse, decrease the light-background angle.

Common accessories are as follows: diffusers, barn doors, snoots, and umbrellas. If accessories are not available, compromises in the lighting can alter the effect and quality you desire. Diffusers.

I find their sales staff to be snooty and unhelpful, unwilling to go the distance on small purchases that aren't in stock, and their pricing seems high and inflexible.

This kind of shot would be better served with a snooted flash off-camera, shooting down from above to eliminate the shadows, or even better, with a pair of flashes with the second to kill shadows.

These digital cameras are fantastic but very temperamental compared to my old school (omg) Canon manual film camera. I can never get the lighting good, tried the snoot, barn doors, etc. It's the camera that needs to be adjusted (and my brain).

The most important feature is the hood. It's a snoot type that extends four to five inches out from the face when it's completely zipped up. This is an extremely important feature if the wind is raging and the snow is blowing.

Snoots and barn doors help focus the lights exactly where the photographer wants them. Background lights are sometimes used with color gels placed in front of the light to create colourful backgrounds.

Additional lights broaden the potential to illuminate a backdrop, to create separation from the background by rim lighting the subject from behind, or as an accent light. This light can come from a different angle other than the main light or snooted ...
