Soft box

Soft box
A 'framed' diffuser that fits over the Light and creates a more natural soft light.
(see Diffuser)
Soft Lighting
Lighting that is low in contrast, such as on an overcast day.
(see Contrast & Diffuser) ...

As the soft box gets bigger, you can see that the lighting gets softer. At this distance, the Small OctoDome® does a good job of lighting Kim evenly, while still maintaining a directional feel.

single soft box on a studio light, set prettttty low, Im pretty sure it was a dark blue backdrop, but had the aperture up high enough so that no light showed up on it.

Once the soft box was positioned where we wanted it, we disabled the built-in flash, synced the strobe and camera via a wireless transmitter and receiver and took a shot (figure 4).

A soft box makes the light more diffuse; a snoot causes it to be more directional. There are times when a photographer desires the photo to appear as if the light was coming from a specific point or to only illuminate a specific portion of the scene.

A softbox or soft box is a kind of light modifier used to create soft but directional light. Softboxes are commonly used in portrait and product photography.
Click here for a good introduction to different types of light modifiers and what they do.

The octagonal soft boxes fold up very nicely but I found it physically impossible to assembly them completely.

For lighting, I used a single large soft box that was hung directly above the stage—this produced the soft shadows directly below the pots.

The lighting for portraiture is typically diffused by bouncing it from the inside of an umbrella, or by using a soft box. The soft box is essentially a strobe encased in an opaque box and one side is made of translucent fabric material.

This light is comprised of a Tungsten lamp that bounces off the silver walls of a SilverDome soft box and through two layers of diffusion to create a soft, even light.

This means that you can control the light in interesting ways by using umbrellas and soft boxes to diffuse the light and soften the shadows, whilst still getting a reasonable exposure at a small aperture.

There are also excellent soft box options for the Quantum flash units, multiple power pack options, and the best RF control setup available.

In the studio, where umbrellas and soft boxes can create huge surfaces that reflect off surfaces like crazy, the solution is simple: Have the sitter tilt her head down or away slightly so the glasses reflect the light source away from your lens.

We aim the camera at a white wall (about 0.5 m away) which is evenly lit by two soft boxes (producing about 10 EV across the entire wall), the lens is manually focused to be about 1m out of focus (to avoid picking up texture detail from the wall).

A cheap lighting technique for portrait photographers uses a garage as a giant soft box. The photographer simply opens the garage door, letting the light flood the garage. Light bounces around and creates a diffuse look without harsh shadows.

Perhaps the best-known is the Bowens 9lite, a kind of soft box with (you guessed it) nine compact fluorescent bulbs. I've used the latter type bulbs in standard household fixtures.

Included in the kit is a pair of R-200 flash units, a dazzling array of adaptor rings to fit virtually any front filter mount Nikkor lens, a set of color filters for the flash head, a pair of mini soft boxes, and several other accessories.

Diffusers are great. I use the Lumiquest Pocket Bounce on the 550FD and the Lumiquest Soft Box on the Vivitar 2600. Still, bouncing off a nice white wall (or poster board) is even better.

With the sun below the horizon, the sky essentially becomes a huge soft box, spreading reflected light through the atmosphere without the harshness and shadows of a point source such as the direct light of the sun.

Flash mounted diffusers, like these from Lumiquest, are like translucent soft boxes that spread out the flash so it bounces off more surfaces, softening it.

5m power pack soft box very high. Normally I would use a beauty dish, but not this time as I needed a little softer light. I shot this with a Nikon D3 and a Sigma 80-200mm lens at about f/11. I now use a Nikon D3X and Nikon VR lens.

No one responded to this question, havent bought yet, so wanna make sure.
-4 light stands
-2 soft boxes
-reflectors(never used, where do they go?)
-backgrounds,tripod ect.-What are the best light bulbs??
PLz help!! Thanks!!! ...

soft box - a diffuser built around the bulb of a photographic lamp, used to soften the light.
soft focus - a flattering technique often used in portrait photography that deliberately adds blur to a lens. The blur hides blemishes and smooths wrinkles.

When they first started doing this, they used a Nikon Coolpix 990, a seamless table top and three incandescent lights with soft boxes. You would never know it to see the final images used at the point of purchase.
