solvent
a dissolving, thinning, or reducing agent.
solvent activated
an adhesive that requires the addition of a solvent to activate bonding properties.

One solvent to avoid or to use with great care is Acetone. It's very, very good at removing grease. However it's also very, very good at dissolving plastics and paint. It's also difficult to find commercially in a pure form.

Acetone - solvent chemical used in certain processing solutions that contain materials not normally soluble in water.
Achromatic - lens system that has been corrected for chromatic aberration.
Acid - chemical substance with a pH value below 7.

As such, another solvent would be necessary to sustain silicon-based life forms; it would be difficult (if not impossible) to find another common compound with the unusual properties of water which make it an ideal solvent for carbon-based life.

Which of the following chemicals is used commonly as a silver-halide solvent? 8-34. 8-35. 8-36. 8-37. 1. Acetic acid 2. Sodium thiosulfate 3. Sodium sulfite 4.

This fog, which looks something like a ghost image, is created by ink solvents leaving the paper before it is completely cured. These solvents dry at a slower rate than water so even when a print feels dry, they may not have completely dissipated.

I am not sure what type of AR coatings are put on camera lenses, but many are quite durable and resistant to many solvents (we use isopropanol, methanol, acetone, toluene, sometimes even dish washing detergent).

Assuming you haven't been eating fried chicken while using your camera, there's no need to break out the nasty chemical solvents and steel wool pads. To safely and easily remove most smudges, simply use your breath.

He then wiped the plate with a rag that was coated in Oil of Lavender; a popular solvent of the day. The oil dissolved the soft, unexposed bitumen, revealing the metallic pewter underneath.

-Naphtha is a volatile petroleum based solvent such as benzine or gasoline (but not kerosene).
-ND is an abbreviation for neutral density.

Sodium thiocyanate
An alternative to potassium thiocyanate and is used as a silver solvent in physical and ultra fine grain formulae.

It is a good idea to wear gloves when doing this work; keep your workspace as clean and dust-free as possible.
Don't smoke around solvents. Make sure everyone knows it's there, and doesn't mistake it for water.

A microfiber cleaning cloth makes it possible to remove dust, grit, and even the oil left by fingerprints without the use of any solvent. These cloths are inexpensive, and can be washed and reused.

Alcohol is a weaker solvent and so it may take a minute or two of gentle movement to dissolve the oil. Remember to do both sides of the shutter - you'll have to move the mirror upwards to get the inner side, so don't get any fingerprints on it.

The extremely fine fibers and very tight weave of this cloth makes it possible to remove dust, grit, and even the oil left by fingerprints without the use of any solvent.

Maury Cohen, product specialist at Lowepro USA, says, 'We suggest that customers hand-wash the bag with a mild, non-abrasive, non-solvent detergent like Ivory, then rinse thoroughly and drip dry.' Once cleaned, the bag should be contaminant-free.

'acrylonitrilebutadienestyrene copolymer' a cross between plastic and rubber with excellent engineering properties, used to make underwater housings, cabinets for electronic equipment, solventweld plumbing fittings, etc.
Aberration ...

It is nothing to be afraid of, but the camera manufacturers do not support it and some claim that it voids warranty. Do not fall for this. They have no way of knowing that you cleaned your sensor if you use the brush method. Do not use solvents ...
