As the name implies, the meter cell reads only the light from a very small part of the frame.

SPOT METERING- Spot metering for exposure is a method used in some SLRs and some digital cameras as well. It works like this:
There is an area marked in the optical viewfinder in the center of the image.

This type of metering uses only a small central spot of the frame to measure the light coming off the subject. The measuring spot is often indicated in the viewfinder of the camera.

Spot Metering Mode
Maybe you've tried taking a photo using the standard Center-Weighted or Matrix / Multi-segment metering modes and neither provide satisfying results.

The spot meter is a powerful tool for fine tuning your exposure. To use it, start by putting your camera into the manual exposure mode. Next, change your metering mode to spot.

The spot metering mode concentrates taking light level readings from the very center of the frame and ignores the rest of the frame. In spot mode, a dot appears in the viewfinder and the camera will take a reading from whatever you place this dot on.

How to Spot Sensor Dust
Find invisible dust
If you have a digital SLR and change lenses, you probably have small dark spots on your images caused by dirt particles on the sensor. They in size, density and sharpness.

Each time you spot a subject, snap a shot and then move in closer for a better shot. Having your subject almost fill the frame helps your viewer understand and appreciate your photo. Also, details are often more interesting than an overall view.

So how do you spot such stores?
Well the first clue is very low prices. By that I mean that their advertised prices are significantly lower than the reputable discount stores like Adorama and Amazon. Maybe 25-45% less.

I often use center spot focus for macro, and all focus points for wide-angle shots. If you are in center spot-focus mode, and your camera allows you to move the focus point, I highly recommend you take advantage of this feature.

Move to a shadier spot
Whenever possible, try to take outdoor photos of people in the shade. Your camera will adjust accordingly in most cases.
