Studio Flash
Realizing that quite a few E-10 users have hooked up their camera to studio flash systems I decided to fire off a few shots with the E-20.

Studio flash
Stationary, high power flash that is mostly used by advertising and fashion photographers.

What is studio flash?
The term usually refers to large flash units used in indoor studios. These flash units are powered by AC (mains) power and are not portable, like on-camera shoe-mounted flash units.

Studio flash heads have several advantages for the photographer because they are powerful, even the lower priced units kick out much more power that the average portable flash, and infinitely more than continuous light.

Flash, or flashgun, is a word for a device used in still photography for giving a strong bright light onto a photographed scene for just the moment of exposure.

Studio flashes usually contain a modeling light, which is an incandescent light bulb placed close to the flash tube. The continuous illumination of a modeling light helps in visualizing the effect of the flash.

Then we have studio flash which is usually only available to professional photographers. These are big flash units with very high guide numbers for use in the studio.

In a darkened studio, I placed a studio flash inside a softbox and took advantage of the ambient light produced by the modeling lamp in conjunction with the more powerful flash.

For studio work a camera with PC terminal allows you to attach studio flash units. If you do still-life or portraits in the studio you should look for a camera with PC terminal.

Use various types of home lighting setups like floor lamps, swing arm lamps, etc.

Manualy set the aperture according to the studio flash. If u have a pc socket, its well. Dont use the built in flashgun. Otherwise use it to sync but place a white card in front of the flash. So that this light will not appear into the exposure.

When you take a picture, a signal is sent from the camera along the cable to fire the studio flash. A few cameras have what looks like a hot shoe but lacking electrical connections.

Instead, the DX enabled flash unit would fire monitor pre flash bursts which would be read by the cameras meter. If we wanted multiple flash options, it was back to the old trusty studio flash meter and manual strobe control.
